All major oil companies are making the transition to becoming energy companies. This is essentially long term investment in the future of thier company.

Exxon and Shell among the others are working on the same kinds of projects and Exxon is advertising the absolute hell out of it.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

This is no different from Big Tobacco companies giving donations or setting up anti-smoking adds or cancer awareness groups.

The sad thing is as we see gas prices come down, the general public doesn't stick to it's prior will of changing over from oil and keeping in mind where it comes from. It's very easy for policy makers and government to ignore seriously changing things to alternative energy because it's not effecting everyday things as much as it previously was.

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

Prices reflect the current economy and the regular Winter Slowdown.

I can only imagine prices back into the 3's and 4's next summer.

    well, they should!
if they have any hopes for the future, long-term...they NEED to become 'energy companies'....not just gasoline providers. i truly hope this happens, and then the 'competition' is for what's the best alternate fuel source. wouldn't that be nice? options! :D

If we've all learned or seen first hand the high level of price gauging and foul play the markets reflect when greed is at hand. These are man-made devices in which companies and people in the industry use current events and ongoings as excuses to raise or lower prices for their own benefit.
