Dateline 4/20 from Toledo, OH about VA Tech:

Local radio station 106.5 the zone has removed two songs from its rotation because of the nature of the lyrics. The zone will no longer play 'Hey man, nice shot' by Filter and 'Jeremy' by Pearl Jam. The latter song references a shooting inside a school. The zone's programming director says the station has decided to err on the side of caution even though the songs have no direct connection to the tragedy.

i seriously doubt either one of these songs is getting heavy rotation these days anyway. Besides if i want to hear Jeremy, i have the studio as well as many live versions of it ready to fire up whenever i feel the craving. Who needs radio. It generally sucks anyway.

i wonder if they'll play "shine" by collective soul since that was supposedly Cho's favorite song.http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/blog/

Perhaps, but i doubt there are to many people who would be hearing Jeremy for the first time. i guess my reaction to the whole thing is "well. gee, thats kinda silly... oh well".

I don't have a problem with them not playing the songs, but why is this even news? Did they issue a press release about it or something? If they did, I find that worse than just taking a couple songs off of the airwaves.

weren't both of those songs about people who committed suicide but did not kill anyone else? I think Jeremy is about a kid that shot himself in front of his class and Hey Man Nice Shot is about a politician who called a press conference so his perceived tormenters could watch him commit suicide. if so, I think both those songs should be put into HEAVY rotation to encourage people like Cho to off themselves and not physically harm innocent people.

  • that's just silly. kylie minogue changed the title of her album from inpossible princess to kylie because of princess diana's death at around the same time and the strokes removed new york city cops from their debut album's american release due to 9/11. in both instances, there aren't any connections whatsoever and i find it a cop-out.
