That's right, cause if I kid were to watch NYPD Blue nudity should be his guardian's major concern
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.
  • I think if someone is that concerned that they might be offended by something, to the point that they think the broadcaster deserves to be punished, and they are going to make the effort to complain, then they should also make the effort to research the shows they are about to watch. Why should the shows I want to watch be cut because someone who probably wouldn't watch them anyways can't be bothered to research them first.

Hehe...I'd think that to. But I tend to think that about a whole lot of things.

    Hehe...

It must be a "true expression of the will of the majority", since the FCC arose in a democratic country, no? Certainly any regulation that emerges from a governmental mandate in a democratic arena is the will of the majority.
No, it doesn't necessarily have to be. Not by definition anyway. At best, it is. Democracy goes deeper than being able to "choose" president who then has all authority by default. (This is not directed towards America btw) Democracy is about people being involved in, participating and deciding how things work and should work right down to the ground level. And it is my humble opinion that the larger the country, the less real the democracy. Or rather the larger, diverse and intransparent a country is, the more people will not be heard in the process, lending it to be dominated by an elite based in some minor majority or major minority.

Thanks for the info on the FCC. So it is regulating the airwaves, which I'm fine with, since the airwaves are limited. But it seems their ability to fine content is rather undefined. But if the fantasy fines are pushed by a majority of americans through their representatives, then my problem is with them I guess. :)

    Peace

    That's quite unbelievable.
There are pertinent studies on the danger of submitting teenagers to violent scenes on television (as well as to violent porn), but nothing on occasionaly watching some boobs in a show. On what grounds does the fcc choose that such images are not right for their viewers? And why not use choices that could actually have an impact?

I agree with all of this, in all seriousness. And to your last point, that is why so many in America still believe in the primacy of state's rights, as opposed to an far-reaching federal democracy.

    I agree with meme.

And seriously, your kids are going to see boobs sooner or later. You can't hide boobs forever, you know! :D

    Thank god *whew* :D

In all seriousness, were I an american I would probably be all for more being decided and dealt with at state level. I also would do alot to change the 1 man pr district thing you got going on electionwise. That way, representation would be more real and reflecting of reality.

Heck I dont like the EU, which I guess is somewhat comparable to the american federal level. I'm still undecided as to whether even Norway is small enough for a real democracy, but I think we are a lot closer than in the large nations of the world. Also notice how the "best place to live" lists are dominated by small countries at the top.
