Finally, some words of wisdom about Israel - Palestine: Elias Chacour

The following quote I read in a feature piece in the local newspaper here yesterday. Quote from a speech he held at the Emory university, Georgia, US in 2001. (And I presume it is directed at the americans in general, although this goes to all of the MTers from me.)

"On behalf of the palestinian children I beg you: Give more friendship to Israel. They need your friendship. But do not interpret your friendship as an automatic antipathy towards me, the palestinian who is paying the cost for what others have done towards my beloved jewish brothers and sisters. And if you have become enlightened enough to take the palestinians' side, but at the same time become one-sided opponents of my jewish brothers and sisters: Stop it! We don't need such friendship. What we need is a common friend. For God's sakes, none of us need any more enemies."

Elias Chacour is a christian palestinian bishop, and has been central to several peace marches and intiatives. He holds education as a centerpiece for promoting peace, and have started several schools in that endeavour.

A man of sense. Listen more to this one, and give him some influence.
