'With few exceptions, even religions that ostensibly represent the teachings of Jesus Christ - the 'Prince of Peace' -- have never forbidden war or the killing of other human beings under 'justifiable' circumstances --justifiable, of course, to those doing the killing; their victims probably wouldn't appreciate the justification'.

quote from Power vs. Force by David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph. D.

I couldn't agree more with this statement. How many wars throughout history have been waged in the name of God (almost all?)...not just by Christians..but by most religions, because they feel they can change the teaching of Christ, or Allah, or whoever... to suit their needs. All these religions teach non-violence, yet, we like to think that we can believe one way...and act another.

the double minded-ness is what so many Christians today do not see. This is how the cycle of violence is perpetuated. we pray for our troops...never once thinking how the mere presents of these troops and the fact they are involved in war is a direct violation of the teachings of the ´Prince of Peace'.

As a Christian, I agree with this in principle. I'm very much anti-war.

Of course, there are a lot of blanket statements thrown around about Christianity that are blindly accepted as fact.

I've never heard any church that I've been a member of advocate going to war or saying anything other than pray for the troops.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.

And not just Christianity has been used for thousands of years now to justify war. Religion is an extension of power politics. Always has been. Consider how and why Christianity even came to be in Europe. It was made the religion of the Roman Empire 321 years after the death of Jesus so that Rome could keep its empire united. Had nothing to do with peace, or god, or Jesus. Just plain old power.
