Great Quote from 'Gangs of New York'

Boss Tweed: Remember the first rule of politics. The ballots don't make the results, the counters make the results. The counters. Keep counting.

So...in an election where the polls have it sized up to be very close...and the company running the computers counting the votes is clearly supportive of the Republican Party....

who thinks we are in for another fraud????

i tell you what...i can picture myself nearly sick as they come in with the winning results for John McCain....

  • lol, it's starting already. funny how the republican party didn't bother to use 'em when a democratic congress was elected. how did they let that happen? they must have forgot there was an election that year. yeah, that's it.

seriously, is this the way it's going to be anytime a republican wins an election?

in cards...sometimes you lose some hands in order to take down the big ones...plus...what was the democratic congress gonna get done with W in there???

honestly, the u.s. has less transparent elections then some 3rd world country's. (its actually true...look it up)

as an american....do computer counted...no paper trail elections bother you?? just in the sense of a democracy???????

and it wasnt like there was a florida joke two elections ago....

and counties in ohio with like two voting machines (in highly democratic areas) where people had to wait in line for 8 hours and such....with that states closely decided count effecting the outcome....

Excellent point. I made the same point after the 2006 elections. The dems can't admit that their candidates could actually lose to reps because they are either not electable or run shitty campaigns. I personally would be happy if the Libertarians could figure out how to rig this one so that neither of the 2 major parties could do any more damage to the country.

honestly,, if you could rig elections...would you do it every time? isnt that a bit obvious???

i will tell you what....if obama wins...i will never bring it up again...OK!

  • I think something a little more sinister than election fraud may be deciding this election.

If the dems could put stronger candidates than Gore or Kerry up there might be a point. But that asshole Gore could hardly win his own state, let alone compete in a national election. And he went up against a former president's retarded kid who then went on to win a second election against Kerry, an automaton without a personality.

And while electronic voting certainly has its downsides, in my state we do it with paper ballots and mail-in ballots, moving to 100% mail in ballots after this year. Even with that, there were plenty of recounts, "misplaced" ballots, and our democrat governor won by a decision at the state supreme court. So voting anomalies are not exclusive to republican victories or electronic balloting.

Don't people say that every election season? We always hear about the October surprise. Invade Iran, kill/capture Bin Laden, etc. Yet we got nothing in 2002, nothing in 2004, nothing in 2006. But you think 2008 is the year?

I see more hate on here for obama than i do for our government that got us into this disaster we are in at the moment.

    wow.
    You're defensive.
that video was almost exclusively about diebold and election fraud.
Obama was thrown in at the end to push it over the top.

And when you say "I see more hate on here for obama than i do for our government that got us into this disaster", i have plenty of disdain for "our" government "that got us into this" ... but i don't exempt Obama from that group. A guy with Zbigniew Brzezinski in his back pocket doesn't exactly get a pass from me as somehow being "outside of the system".

Who's talking about passes. I'm talking anout more hate being spilled towards obama than any other candidate on the AMT. Are you disagreeing with that?

So, if a Democrat wins...who stole the election for them?

C'mon, this is getting very old.

With the candidates that are running (who actually have a chance), what does it matter?

if we all made a "McCain sucks" thread, would you feel happier?

seriously, everyone here clearly dislikes McCain (except for a couple people)... it's a pointless thing to discuss. And if you want to talk about "our" government, what else is there to talk about? They finished their mess and now we have to find someone to clean it up. Unfortunately, many people here think that Obama can do that.

Do you see any other candidate getting the love Obama gets either? No one likes Bush, no one likes Cheney, no one likes McCain... there's nothing to discuss there. Some people see Obama as being different from that kind of politician, and some don't - it's only natural that discussion would centre around where there's an actual debate to have.
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

I'll know something fishy is going on if Obama wins my state. When the tides turned starting with the 1964 election (when the Dems lost the South), my state has only given its electoral votes to Jimmy Carter for obvious reasons. Overall, it's a consistent state for toeing the party line until a major ideological change takes place. Not that I agree with us always voting Republican, that's just how it's become...

I seem to remember quite a bit of hate being directed towards Ron Paul back in the early stages of the campaigns.

George Bush for a third time and the public still won't care!
You've changed your place in this world!

The words "paultard" and "paulsterbater" come to mind.

Shows what supposed "progressives" think about ACTUAL change.

i will never, ever understand this stance. they ARE different. if you can't see it, i don't know what to say...but i see some very big differences, most especially in the length of this war, thus thousands of lives at stake. but hey, that's just me.

as to the OP, i sincerely hope not! i am cautiously optimistic at best, but i am hoping that obama beats by such a wide margin that the diebold won't come into play. we shall see.

*edited for correct spelling of 'diebold'...mea culpa i didn't know how the fuck it's spelled and thus went with the OP's spelling, and didn't notice the one word post showing the proper spelling...

what major differences do you see between Obama and McCain, particularly in foreign policy?

i am sure you noticed, but the topic of this thread is diebold, the possibility of election fraud. yes, i did address know1s point in that regard b/c i don't see it.....but i ALSO addressed the TOPIC of the thread. so no, i am not derailing this thread into yet again the same discussion. i don't understand why so many seem to want to turn every thread into the exact same discussion.

so the most important distinction for me, is the war. i believe both will handle that issue VERY differently, and it will be the difference of quite possibly thousands of lives. you can focus on whatever particulars you want. i am not turning this thread into yet another mccain/obama thread.

back on the topic, i reiterate....i truly hope such will NOT occur again. and i AM hopeful that it won't come into play. again, cautiously optimistic.

I don't care what you also addressed. you made the comment knowing someone would respond.
