57% of Arkansas voters have voted to prohibit adoption by unmarried couples. Translation---no kids for queers. 57% of Arkansas voters would rather kids stay in orphanages and shelters than send them to a loving family. We went pretty far tonight, but n ot far enough. At least not in Arkansas

True story... I lived in Arkansas when I was in kindergarten and 1st grade, I'm left handed.... and can you believe the teachers there actually tried to force me to become right handed because they didn't have any left handed desks???
Crazy

We still have a long way to go, I work with people that believe kids are better off in orphanages than with gay couples and its a shame indeed.
I have friends 2 different couples that are gay and have raised wonderful children.
How sad :(
What really has me confused though is that Arkansas voted overwhelmingly in favor of a state lottery. I would have thought the folks voting against the adoptoin law would have voted against the lottery.
I do think this law will be challenged, and am hopeful the Arkansas Supreme Court will overturn it.
sad.
and, exactly. it is a terrible shame, but change taks it's own time. it IS a long road ahead, on so many fronts.
and this...
ack!
as a fellow southpaw AND a former educator, this appalls me. sure, being a left myself made me much more accutely aware, but none the less...in my artroom i made CERTAIN there were plenty of left-scissors, etc. children need to learn success at an early age, not frustration simply b/c tools do not adapt to them. it still amazes me as an adult when i see so much designed for the righty world. yes, i realize the world IS predominatly right-handed, but none the less..a design bias of such a magnatude need not exist. digital cameras of today frustrate me.
sorry for the rant ...didn't mean to go entirely off-topic. as to the original topic it is a horrific state of affairs, and even just looking at what states went for obama, who went for mccain.....not many surprises there, except for the few tough states that did turn in obama's favor. so you're right, we have come a long way....but still have a long way to go. hell, even obama needs to embrace gay marriage, not merely civil unions....but at least he is leaning in the right direction.
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow
maybe arkansas can "drop off" the kids they dont want next door at Nebraska Hospitals?
