Let's say it ends up 49-49. And let's say Lieberman votes with the Dems, as he's vowed to do. Who is the other Independent? Does he lean more one way than to the other?

As I recall, if it's a tie, Dick Cheney has the final say. And we know how that will end. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though.
  • You are correct.

The other Independent is Bernie Sanders from Vermont. He's currently in the House and definitely leans Democrat.

  • sorry for the confusion. I did not mean a 50-50 split which Cheney would tiebreak. I meant 49-49, where it would come down to Lieberman and the other IND (Sanders). I wondered if those 2 could push the Dems over the top, or if they would likely split their vote, thus bringing in cheney. i should have been more clear

The reason I ask is cause the pundits keep saying the Dems need to get to 51. My thinking was that perhaps they just need to get to 49. Lieberman has already vowed to vote with the Dems. Could lieberman now 'rejoin" the Democratic party? If he can, would he want to? This is so intriguing

That is an amazingly close race with almost 2.25 million votes counted. Just goes to show that every vote counts!

Ah, my bad. If it came to 49-49, I'm pretty sure the Dems would take it.

i can't believe this one turned around. Sounds like it's going to drag on for a few more weeks though due to recounts.

I'm really disappointed with the way the TN race went. That racist ad is going to work.
