I don't really care that she's a "beauty queen" but I wanted to point out a quote she made...
...Gaulke said being Queen of the Lakes is “a huge honor,” but she said she is simply honoring the agreement she made when she committed to the Guard before her senior year at Robbinsdale Cooper High School.
Before her Senior year and probaby before she was 18 she asked to put her life on the line before she probably had any clue what to do with her life...
Kids all over the country from all all backgrounds are being recruited and many of them without any real understanding of the potential consequences.

You make it sound like this beauty queen hasn't watched her nightly news for the last 5 years. I'm not suprised she's honoring her commitments, that's what good people do.
At 17 you ARE aware of the world around you. Most 17 y/o are not as naive as we want to make them look. I joined the military at 17, just like her, with my parent's permission and all. I knew what I was doing.
Now, why would you feel sorry for this girl? Do they not have TV in her hometown? (**No offense, Uncle Leo, just expressing my point)
There is no way that she signed those papers without knowing exactly what she was getting into. 5 years ago... maybe. Today, NO WAY
