    Honestly it doesn't bother me.
I think Russia should be least on the list of concerns, for America anyhow.

    This bothers me though:
the greenpeace fellow interviewed says, "Uranium is a dangerous substance, it should be left in the ground," he said."

That is a ridiculously naive comment.
I guess he is a greenpeace worker, but COME ON ... the world is not going to suddenly abandon its nuclear pursuits because "uranium is a dangerous substance" ... i heard plastic isn't safe either, but sheesh ...

what else DOES bother me is that Russia has publicly stated that it is OUT OF STORAGE ROOM FOR NUCLEAR WASTE AND WILL RESUME DUMPING IN TO THE OCEAN IF IT CAN NOT GET SOME SORT OF AID FROM THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY!

THAT scares the SHIT out of me!

Do a search for "russia dumps nuclear waste in ocean" see what you come up with. it is scary as fuckall!

  • How the heck could a place the size of the Russia be "out of room"

Oh good! :D Now we can get into fisty cuffs! ;)

Coz my take on Uranium is the stuff should stay in the ground! It serves no useful purpose that can't be met in some other way AND any benefits from it are sharply outweighed by the dangers of the stuff! I wouldn't worry too much about Russia dumping it in the ocean, it's only a matter of time before Little Johnny annouces that he's gonna open up great tracts of Australian outback as a nuclear waste dump, quite possibly the land that he compulsorily aquired from the indigenous population on the pretext of "saving their children"

  • A few rthings I have read recently of dealings with Putin just remind me so much of the famous meeting between HItler and Neville Chamberlain, and the "White Paper" that garunteed peace. IN that meeting Hitler aid he had no plans for military aggerssion, and Chamberlain looked Hitler in the eye, and assured everyonbe that he was an honest man, whose word could be trusted.

A week later, the Germans invaded Poland.

To get to the top in Russia, you would have to be ruthless and lie like a bastard.
Russia has the worst track record in teh world for dishonetsy and cover-ups, and regardless of any other opinions on uranium, any agreement with them is worth shit !!

You really think the world would be better served if we eighty-sixed all the nuclear plants and ran everything off of coal !?!

What exactly do you propose to meet the worlds never ending demand for power?

and i dare you to say wind and solar.

    ;)

i hate nuclear risks as much as the next guy but it is better for the planet than coal.

It comes down to it's a hot sports night and sometimes this board will slow down. It bugs me sometimes when I'm ready for action and there is none.

I gather that's the time to do some research.

Here's a thought? Perhaps we could all learn to use less for starters? :)
I saw an interesting interview on Parky on Saturday night with Sir Richard Attenborough and he was right on the money, we don't need half the shit that's manufactured and if we don't support the planet, it cannot support us.
I don't think coal is the answer but there are alternative energy options besides uranium and we should be consuming less and using more environmentally friendly energy options. :)

hehe! You know? Like solar and wind! :p
