I'd just like to know.

If having a newsletter with your name on, and quotes that you claim you did not write OR condone are in gets you the "racist" slogan, even if your ENTIRE record goes against that charge,

what does it mean if you are and WERE a member of the Mormon Church at a time when blacks were not allowed to be priests on the grounds that the "negro" was some how spiritualy inferior.

Again, i don't think he is.
He said on Russerts MTP that he wept the day they allowed blacks to enter the priesthood.

Is this not apples to apples?

So, is Romney a racist?
He was ACTUALY connected withsomething that had racist views. He joined, KNOWING this.
Yet Ron Paul claims he did NOT know, but IS a racist.

Discuss.

It doesn't matter if Romney's racist. He's a mormon. That's reason enough to not vote for him.

Well, then you might as well lump all Christian in that group. How about the white race in general........

Here's the thing about Paul's newsletter..............when I first heard about it, I was under the impression that it was one entry, written by a ghost writter. Even though I disagree with Paul on a lot of issues (except the war, he was great on that issue last night, btw), I have heard him speak and do not feel he was or is a racist. I accepted the 'ghost writer' explaination. But, now there are more and more excerpts from his newsletter coming out and this newsletter spans, what 20 years? If I accept that a ghost writter did indeed write all of this, it was still under Paul's name and it went unnoticed for all these years? It is incompetence at best. And why did Paul refuse to release all his newsletters once this was out? I don't think he should get a pass and be free of the suspicions and criticism. Any other politician (or almost any public figure) would be subjected to the same thing.

  • is having a newsletter published in your name that (rightly or wrongly) you claim to have had no oversight over make you any more or less "racist" then someone who KNOWINGLY joins a church that has (had) very real racist views?

My argument is NOT that he is racist, but incompetent. These things were published under his name, like he wrote them. Not to an organization, religion, or country he belongs to. And it wasn't one item, but many, spanning several years.

  • I'd rather be a racist then follow the Mormon ideology. At least one is based on actual reality. If you want to talk tinfoil hat I think the story of Mormonism is close to the apex of advanced shiny metallic hattery.
