Ok.
|I got this from Creature From Jekyll Island in the section talking about the first American expirements with fiat money -- the continental:
Thomas Jefferson, 1786
"Every one, through whose hands a bill passed, lost on that bill what it lost in value during the time it was in his hands. This was a real tax on him; and in this way the people of the United States actually contributed to those... millions of dollars during the war, and by a mode of taxation the most oppressive of all because the most unequal of all."
Translation:
The public paid for the war [in this case, it was actually a just war -- the American Revolution, lol] by fact of the Government printing up millions more. Thus the value of your dollar declined as the total number of dollars increased. It is more oppressive because the government spends new money first and no one is the wiser, so they get good dollar value, and you get deflated worthless currency.
how much more did the revolution cost?
The confederation of states had $12 million in circulation in 1775, and over $400 million in 1779 -- over 3500% inflation.
I thought that was an informative quote by Jefferson.
Speaks volumes.
RON PAUL IS AT 10.5 MILLION FOR THE QUARTER.
He was ON WOLF BLITZER TONIGHT .. but the video poster only posted the 2nd half of the interview. ? :( ?
The first half was great as well.
