  • Don't mislead... he is a doctor who spent years doing this, not some surfer who had a Eureka moment. His financial situation was his own choice too.

    ...
I watched that series on NOVA about all that Theory of Everything that tried to resolve the conflicts between Einstein and Newton... very small things and very large things... and they got into that strings theory stuff and the 8 dimensions and all that crazy stuff... so I switched it back to SpongeBob Squarepants and was happy again.

  • An outsider like Einstein. I hope he lives up to the challenge. I will follow this eagerly.

  • A true Spicoli moment. Amazing what a little sun, weed, and water can do.

Seems he has his priorities straight.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions

    Random Facts

In that article they talk about the Perimeter Institute. On that land there used to be a hockey arena where I played when I was young. And when my dad was young he played there too.

Then about 10 years ago, one of the CEO's of RIM (Blackberry) , Mike Lazeridis, decided he had way too much money and built this huge black building with weird windows in order to provide a place to map out the Perimeter of the known universe, and have discussions between scientists.

See the really cool thing about the arena is that there was a bubble over it, like you see over tennis courts sometimes. The original building was deemed unsafe in the 80s, so instead of build a new arena, the mayor decided to but a bubble over the ice surface. Since sound carries across the arc of the bubble, whenever you got a penalty, you could spy on the other team and hear every word the coach said.

IMO, the sound dynamics of the bubble were way more scientific than the Perimeter Institute is.

My 7 year old has a theory that the universe is round since all the planets are round. Makes sense to me. I'll get him one of those spirographs so he can prove it and make us rich.

then do not fret, my comment is directed at them instead of you... it bugs me that they call him a surfer, because it hides the fact that he has a doctorate, which isn't easy to get. Its the theory thats big news here, not the fact that he likes to surf.
