NEW YORK — An independent watchdog group says that Republican John McCain's campaign aired a negative TV ad on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, but a tracking company says there's no evidence of that yet.

The group Factcheck.org said Friday that the Campaign Media Analysis Group, an advertising data and analysis firm, found a negative ad from the McCain campaign airing on Denver television on Thursday. That would be a violation of the pledge both the Democratic and Republican camps took to take a one-day break from attacks and traditional campaigning.

But Evan Tracey of CMAG said the company's data shows the ad actually aired the day before, on Sept. 10, and that there's no data yet to show that it also ran on Thursday.

McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers also said there is no evidence it did.

The 30-second ad criticizes the campaign of Democrat Barack Obama for what the Republicans call "disrespectful" treatment of McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

  • Why is this newsworthy? Is this an 'almost' attach on McCain?
  • we hit the mute button when the commercials come on....

i've also contributed to mass disinformation when the pollsters call my home in the evening

  • So they think McCain ran an ad yesterday, but nobody knows for sure?

Right, apparently it was not an effective ad. This and the lipstick issue need to go away.

The thing that's starting to piss me off about McCain's campaign is the ridiculousness of the lies they're spinning. There's no doubt that Republican and Democratic presidential candidates alike spin the truth, creative inventive lies, half-truths and falsified exaggeration. But I mean, at least you used to have to do a little digging to find out you were being completely lied to. McCain's camp isn't even trying anymore, they're betting people won't go to the computer if they have one and sit down for a minute. It's kind of insulting; come on Senator, at least give us a challenge.

    Ah, didn't see that.

Doesn't really change one other thing I wrote, but fair enough.
  • Was he actually at the computer making the add run? If not, how do we know if it was an Obama supporter trying to make McCain look bad for this. I will leave that one to the conspieracy nuts.

According to Obama's latest ad, McCain doesn't know how to work a computer ... so I'd guess it wasn't McCain himself who posted this alleged ad.
