Does anyone else look at experience? (Non-US, but Yanks welcome of course ;))

Heya, having been addicted to the current race in the USA it struke me that here in the UK the media and indeed voters rarely speak about experience.
Personally when I vote for someone I look at their policies and ideology rather than see what the partical potential MP/PM/Councillor etc could actually bring to the job.

Just wondering people's thoughts.

    A Yank speaking,

I understand that experience is necessary. I mean, someone needs some kind of record or professional background to make sure that what they will do is congruent with what they say. But experience should not be the end-all be-all that many want it to be. I mean, what worth is it to have twenty-five years experience of making the wrong choices? What does it say about how the next four years will go?

We talk about it a lot in the US and try to make a big issue of it. But, I think most people here vote emotionally...they don't care about experience, no matter what they say...they care about a story they can keep straight and that does something for them. It's really all about the story and the sound bites when people walk in the voting booth. Yeah, some political junkies do care about all the plodding details, like experience, but most people...not so much. "Have a I got a little story for you...what you thought was your candidate was nothing but a....." :)
