Election fixing charges fly in Utah county
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Voting appears to be very popular in Daggett County, Utah.
Daggett County has registered 947 voters for Tuesday's election. According to the most recent Census figures, that's four more than the county's population in 2005.
A spokesman for Attorney General Mark Shurtleff says complaints of vote-stuffing in the county are being investigated. Democrats suspect County Clerk Vickie McKee is letting outsiders swell the Daggett County registration rolls to give Republicans an advantage. The Democrats also say the father of a Republican deputy running for sheriff has 14 adults registered at his household. McKee hasn't responded to messages from The Associated Press.

the sooner people realize their beloved country isn't the beacon of justice and integrity, the sooner you can make it into one ...
it is funny that a developing nation like india, the worlds largest democracy, can make electronic voting work yet the usa, the richest country, cannot or indeed will not

and india has somehow managed to control traffic without traffic lights as well...

nicely put. the system is so flawed down there and there is so much corruption, i don't know why they even bother having elections. they might as well just pull names out of a hat.
Another habit says its long overdue
Another habit like an unwanted friend
I'm so happy with my righteous self
I could not agree more. Electronic voting scares the hell out of me. Let's stick with the paper ballots. Then again, even those are counted electronically. Ugh.
if this turns out to be true.....

....nothing will be done. Never is. Lotta talk, no action. Allen is pitiful.
"Daggett County"
I love it!
there you are.

My husband voted this morning and it went smoothly. It was a touch-screen machine, but it did print the vote on a piece of paper that you have to review and hit "cast ballot" if it's correct, before your vote is counted, and the paper is stored in the machine.
Kind of funny that I voted absentee because I didn't trust the machines, and now the biggest problem here is that the Diebold scanners that count the absentee ballots were coming up with the wrong vote counts during tests all last weekend. Sometimes you just can't win.

If it turns out to be TRUE, then doesn't that mean that the voter is registered in New York, and as such, would be ILLEGALLY voting in the Virginia election? It just seems that in this particular case, the finger might be pointed in the wrong direction.
(Shawn Smith's official website, but not Thee Shawn Smith)
Arlington, Virginia resident Tim Daly received a personalized phone call on his answering machine yesterday from an individual claiming to be from the "Virginia Elections Commission." The caller stated that "we've determined you are registered in New York to vote. Therefore, you will not be allowed to cast your vote on Tuesday." The caller then warned, "if you do show up, you will be charged criminally."
State elections in Virginia are supervised by the Virginia State Board of Elections (SBE) and there is no "Virginia Elections Commission." Democratic Party officials have reckoned that the GOP hopes to avoid being charged criminally by misidentifying the SBE, however, legal advisers to the Democratic Party have stated that it is a crime to impersonate a state official.
Daly, a wounded Vietnam veteran, has been registered to vote in Virginia since 1998 when he moved from New York. A volunteer with the Jim Webb headquarters in Arlington arranged for Daly to swear an affidavit on the voter intimidation incident to the general counsel for the Democratic Party of Virginia. The GOP has obviously gained access to records of voters who moved to Virginia since at least 1998 and are attempting to intimidate them by claiming they are still registered to vote in their previous states of residence.
Daly, a double Purple Heart recipient, is irked by the GOP voter suppression attempt. He says he will cast his vote tomorrow for a straight Democratic ticket, including voting for fellow Vietnam War veteran US Senate candidate Jim Webb.
There are reports of other similar attempts to suppress the vote in Virginia but Daly was the only one who received such a call to go public, file a sworn affidavit, and volunteer to appear in court as a witness.

Most of the voting in my county is done with paper ballots. But there was 1 Diebold machine at my polling place, so I elected to use that to give it a try since I've always only had the paper option. It worked just like you described above. I marked my selections. After I was done, it went into review mode screen by screen showing my my selections. If there was a problem I could reject it and do that section again. If the page was right (and they all were) I hit the "Print" button to go to the next screen. It would print my votes on paper which I could see behind a translucent cover on the printer. At the end of the review and printing I hit the "Cast Ballot" button. So for my votes, I know that a paper trail exists, and I could see what was printed on the paper is how I actually voted.
As seen on a bumper sticker:
"It ain't over, til' your brother counts the votes"
It might be true.
But as of right fucking now, these motherfuckers are screwing us over.
Great post.
