simply brilliant! a sweet little offbeat sitcom. i think canada is one of the few countries that could get away with making it. i am sad to say i think broadcasters in england would be beaten down if they had greenlit such a show, but bravo to cbc for going for it.

    Repeat of last night tonight.

It had some moments that made me giggle. But it almost seemed like inside jokes that made me laugh. They better get rid of some of the cliche lines and put some good humour in it or it won't last too long.

It sure is. If you watch the episode tonight you will see it all within the first five minutes. Like I said, I giggled and laughed at some parts. But it is just jokes that the Muslim lady and I laugh and kid about at work. Paranoid people. Loud mouth, right wing radio host. Oblivious people. And then toss in the stereotypical comments that come with those types of characters and voila. The recipe for a tame, CBC inspired comedy.

I sure with the government could find a better use for our tax dollars than supporting the CBC. I'd gladly cheer the axing of CBC if they said all that tax money would be moved to the environment. Heck, I'd pretty much cheer the axing of the CBC even if they said they we just going to burn the money instead. At least that would provide more entertianment than the CBC.

the cbc is all some people have ... don't get me wrong - i don't favour all their programming but its still my favourite media outlet ... i listen to radio 1 all day - i hear about how people are changing the environment; the on-goings in the middle east; a roundtable on the state of alberta ... i really don't wanna hear some DJ crank call someone for kicks ...

take the good with the bad ... but the CBC to me is a national treasure

Ahhhhh, we're not bashing the CBC as much as suggesting how to fine tune it. I enjoy some programs on the station and can't tune into some. Same with most stations. But when I go camping into the remote areas of a province that dosen't speak too much English. It is good to be able to find the CBC (English) station on the radio dial. And of course there is Saturday night hockey that can't be beat.

I am with you on the Mercer report. I dig that show. And the fact that our politicians don't mind getting roasted on shows such as Mercer and This Hour Has 22 Minutes makes tuning in worth the while.

  • I just watched the first episode on youtube, and I thought it was a cute show. Shows like this should definitely air in the states. The Self-deprecating humor could go a long way to making muslims seem more "human" to people here.

The second episode aired last evening. It has the potential to be very good, but is just lacking a bit of oomph. I must say that after two shows some of the characters are already growing on me.

Saw episode 1, It was alright, I guess I was expecting a bit more.
But I think it could go quite far. It had some good jokes.

I hear that no american stations are interested in the show except for HBO and showtime and stuff in that area.
  • cbc is the best..... it has been great since the seventies...lot of good actors have come from there no doubt.... you know canada comes form the spanish phrase aca nada which means nothing here.......

I think it came from the word "kanata", which I believe is from a native language. But i'm not 100% sure on it.
  • The name Canada comes from a word in the language of the St. Lawrence Iroquoians, canada, meaning "village" or "settlement". In 1535, inhabitants of the present-day Quebec City region used the word to direct Jacques Cartier towards the village of Stadacona.[2] Cartier used the word 'Canada' to refer to not only that village, but the entire area subject to Donnacona, Chief at Stadacona. By 1547, maps began referring to this and the surrounding area as Canada.[3]

..there it is the real origin of canada....... aca nada is just a joke.....
