Oprah has backed him....

"Media titan Oprah Winfrey is throwing her considerable weight behind Barack Obama's bid to become America's first black president after dismissing public opinion suggesting she should make a run for office. Winfrey admits she's a huge fan of Obama's opponent and fellow Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton, but Obama has her vote. Speaking on Ellen DeGeneres' chat show yesterday, Winfrey admits, "I'm feeling Barack." She continues, "I don't just love him. I respect him. I think he's a fresh new voice in politics. I think what he can do for this country would be amazing." Winfrey has spent the past four years dismissing reports she's planning a political charge for the White House. "

whatev. There's all this buzz about electing the "first black president", but you know what? Obama isn't black. That's just the color of his skin.
  • Holy frig..alot of threats about this Obama guy.. not into Amrican politics too much but who cares if he's black..Is he a good candidate? or is everyone just jumping on the 1st black president bandwagon?

well, he claims to be progressive but he only supported/campaigned for ppl like lieberman. altho ppl will try to argue this is not true thru a technicality...he created a political action committee a year or 2 before teh senate races...so he went around on this publicity type tour raising money for all the senate races....so when some progressives won the democratic primaries his pac gave them some of the money, which would've happened regardless of who won the primary, that was the only criteria for getting the money from his pac, you had to win teh democratic senate primary...but he didn't campaign for them or offer any support to the progressives, to me that is not really support

he also voted to reauthorize the patriot act, voted to confirm condi rice as sec of state, he voted against an amendment to cap credit card interest rates at 30%, he supports an attack on iran, voted for the tort reform bill which takes away a persons right to obtain reasonable redress and compenstation from misbehaving corporations, at least a year or so ago his policy on iraq was:
    1- stabilize iraq
2- defeat insurgency <how would you do this, exactly??>
    3- bring the troops home

he also said he wanted to not bring ALL the troops home but leave some there to protect vital interests, 'logisitical supply points' and whatnot

to me his stances are anything but progressive. he even choose lieberman as his mentor in the senate...everyone used to call lieberman republican light and other things...but now that it's obama they all love these stances all of a sudden and call it progressive...go figure

but in the end vote for who you think represesnts your views/beliefs more than anyone else, voting on 'the most electable' or whatever only gives us more of the same
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way
  • i wish people ........ blacks whites reds browns whatever.... would be more like morgan freeman and sidney poitier and see themselves as people as men or as women..... in my whole life i have only met one african american and a few mexican american and japanese american..... if you are born here you are an american.......no matter what color you are so why pretext it with something like mexican or african.......... i dont call myself a scottish american.... or danish american..........
  • The US is probably the largest melting pot in the world. Or is that Brazil? Considering all the different nationalities that emigrated from the Ancient Continent. I find it hard to define an 'American' without thinking of the Latino-, African-, Asian-American clichés along with the "white picket fence" cliché.

Obama is about as socialist as democratic candidates get, and Hillary is the definition of hypocrite to a tee. WTF is wrong with the democratic party these days?
