I'm sure they played the US anthem. I wasn't aware that they played the Canadian anthem all of the time. Typically in US cities, they will always play the US anthem, and will play the Canadian one only if they are playing against a Canadian team.

That's generally true. Perhaps Buffalo always plays the Canadian Anthem given its proximity to Canada?

They don't even play the Cdn national anthem at the Bills games and at least half the stadium is filled with Canucks. So I can't see them playing the Cdn anthem at the Sabres game when a Cdn team wasn't even playing. If they didn't do that for Gretzky when he went to the US cities when he played in Edmonton, I don't think Crosby would be reason enough either. :)

  • I am from Buffalo and have realized that they sing the canadian national anthem at every hockey game. Is there anyone here that attends hockey games throughout the country? If so do they sing the canadian national anthem? They probablly sing the Canadian national anthem due to the fact that the game was invented and is mosly played by canadians, or because of proximity.

Not that unusual - I don't really go to sports events, but I do live in a close to the border, college town. At the graduation they always play both the US and the Canadian anthem. Many businesses and buildings have both the Canadian and the US flag. The mentality of borders blur slightly when you live near the border.

It's NHL tradition for them to play both national anthems, when you have an american-based team and a canadien-based team; playing each other.

Buffalo has been doing that for quite some time, if I remember correctly. They are very close to the border, so they honor both countries by playing both anthems.

Which I think is cool. I like when they play both.
