I received a $21,550.97 water bill today. No joke. Well, the thread title was somewhat of a joke, but the bill was real.

I'm usually around $30 a month.

  • Did you use 718 times as much water as usual? ;)

I wasn't even here for over a week, and I shut off the main in the basement before I left.

Monday morning will be interesting when I go to the city hall.

It would actually be ~ 717.37 times as much.. You forgot to deduct the $30.00 he typically uses. ;)

I never was any good at math problems. :p

  • For real though.. What was that bill all about? Did your neighbors fill their pools up or what?

Well, if we are getting technical here, Rhino did say "times as much as normally used". So Rhino was trying to figure out how many times would you need to multiply the normal usage to get to the $21,550.97 bill. Which, Unsung would have needed to multiply his normal use of $30 by 718.37 to get the bill of $21,550.97. Thus, he used 718.37 times his normal usage of $30 during the last month.

If you spent $25 for water in March, and then paid $50 in April, you would have used two times as much water in April than March (assuming water prices did not increase).

Basically, Unsung's water usage was 718.37 times his normal usage. Apparently, Unsung is part of the problem, and not the solution! :p

At least that is my interpretation. I am at work right now, so my only joy is working on this math problem!

Sounds like your neighbor had a new pool put in.

seriously, how did you end up with a $21,550.97 water bill?
  • Not to derail the thread, but I used to work for a certain wireless phone company. Their wireless internet cards cap out at 5GB worth of downloads and it charges you by the MB after that. I had a guy come in who had a $24,000 bill. He did a lot of online gaming. I also regularly had people who refused to give their teenagers unlimited text messaging come back with huge bills. As high a $1,500 in text messaging alone. And...(rant coming) of course they'd whine and bitch until they got a credit even though their accounts were documented that a certain text package was highly recommended (which would have saved them $1,490 on their bill) and they refused.
