In the case, ACORN submitted just over 1,800 new voter registration forms, and all but six of the 1,800 names were fake.

The truth is actually much more damning: "More recently, 27,000 registrations handled by the group from January to July 2008 "went into limbo because they were incomplete, inaccurate, or fraudulent," said James Terry, chief public advocate at the Consumers Rights League."

This is downright fucked up, whether you're a republican or a democrat, this isn't something you can possibly feel good about.

The US needs to take lessons in democracy from Venezuela. One of the most respected and accurate voting systems around, according to people that keep track of those types of things.

Its a computer screen. you vote for whater issue or whatever candidate, and you get a paper receipt. Another paper printout is saved in the case of close elecions. ITs something like 60/40, if a vote is that close they go to the paper reciepts and start counting those. And its standardized across the nation. there's no punch hole ballot folding in florida and diebold fraud machines in michigan-its standardized across the entire nation.

Its really not that hard. Obviously that would make manipulation of the system that much more difficult and so any attempt to implement a system like this would be met with stiff resistance from the policy planners, still something any responsible citizen should be looking into.

Pshh, yeah, right. Only if you think ensuring the integrity of the most crucial part of any democracy is free from sabotage...

I pulled this from Wikipedia ......

In 2007, five Washington state ACORN workers were sentenced to jail time. ACORN agreed to pay King County $25 000 for its investigative costs and acknowledged that the national organization could be subject to criminal prosecution if fraud occurs again. According to King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg, the misconduct was done "as an easy way to get paid [by ACORN], not as an attempt to influence the outcome of elections."

the last statement being i think the most important, sounds like a bit of a stunt to me. Im not saying that this isnt wrong. But probably nothing to do with the election itself or the "dems" as some might say.

    another opinion from wikipedia......

In contrast, John Atlas argues in a Huffington Post editorial that ACORN has "accumulated many enemies" and has been "subjected to vicious attacks from business lobbyists, conservative politicians, and right-wing media." This same source alleges that the George W. Bush administration has sought to harass ACORN with accusation of voter fraud.
