If I opened it now would you not understand?
It could but I highly doubt that it will. I'm no expert in the field of physics but the article quotes experts stating that what they are attempting to do at CERN is done naturally on this planet everyday through cosmic rays.
The first attempt to circulate a beam through the entire LHC is scheduled for September 10, 2008, and the first high-energy collisions are planned to take place after the LHC is officially unveiled, on October 21, 2008.
So we still have a little over a month before tiny black holes destroy the earth.
I think it will be very interesting to see what we can learn about matter and energy, perhaps a better understanding of the big bang, and who knows what else.
The day before September 11th?

I'm shocked that none of our illustrious presidential candidates has mentioned this. They could easily use this to instill more fear into the American people. Forget the war on terror, let's start the war on science.
Good call. There is a thread in AET about this and there are a couple of people who have called for us to "stop playing God". WTF??? So you are not off base thinking that religious folk are going to start playing on fear.
Well they have already started waging war on science, stem cell research, evolution and global climate change to name a few, so this is bound to be next.
