I saw this photo while reading about the protests and marches in Myanmar. Something about this picture really touched me and I thought I would share it with everyone.

I think you are confusing the Bhurmese monks for Shaolin monks.
It has also been reported that a monk was killed by riot police/military gun shot. Also Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been under house arrest for the past 4 years, has been moved to Insein Prison because she greeted some of the protesting monks at the gate of her home.
ohhh. See this kinda shit doesnt happen in Shaolinia.
If this was happening in Henan province, China then you would be seeing some kick as Shaolin monks. There would be a pile of riot police all incapacited by Shaolin fung-fu and wushu.
please help support their protest.

it is the "fighting peacock" used to show support for the National League for Democracy
I know India does and I'm not sure if China does as well.
they should be called out at the UN then ... i think a suspension on military aid would be worth a try there ...
What should be done is a proposal to levy sanctions on India, and China if they do in fact provide military aid to Myanmar. Without the aid the military government will not have to means to stay in power. Instead of increasing the sanctions on a people that are already suffering, levy them on the countries that help support the dictatorship that oppresses them.
mamma I thought she'd been under house arrest for much longer than that but hadn't been seen for four years?

I recall because I remember that the junta allowed her to leave house arrest when her husband was dying of cancer in the UK but if she left she would not be allowed back into the country. She remained and never saw her husband again, just as she has not seen her children. She truly is an amazing woman.

Hold on to the thread
The currents will shift
She has been in and out of house arrest for decades. The government can only hold someone for 5 years before they have to bring them to trial. So they keep her under house arrest for 5 years then let her go only to arrest her again within a short period of time. She has 1 year left before this 5 year sentence is up then she will be released only to be arrested again within months, if not weeks or days.

Doesn't seem likely that this is going to end well for the people then does it?

It probably will not end well. Since the world's focus is always limited to the oppressive regime they fail to hold accountable the governments that aid these regimes allowing them to stay in power. Until we start holding those countries accountable as well, in this case China and India, oppressive regimes like the military junta in Myanmar will simply squash rebellions like this with untold blood shed.
well ... that won't work diplomatically speaking as the US provides military aid to all kinds of shady groups ... so, we'd just have a bunch of bickering ...
china does seem to be a key country moving forward in all sorts of geo-political issues ...
I realize that it will not work. No country would want to be the first one to propose such sanctions because all of the permanent members of the Security Council sell weapons and provide funding to some very shaddy governments. I was merely speaking hypothetically. This would be the surest way of deposing oppressive regimes. If the constant stream of funds and weapons that help these despots stay in power is suddenly cut off they would no longer have the means to control the population.
yup ... but it's almost like one can't exist without the other ... can you imagine if there were no oppressive military dictators - who would the carlysle group sell it's stuff to??
Something tells me that we would all be better off if both did not exist.
Unfortunetly the bloodshed will probably get worse.
China for the first time has agreed to a Security Council statement expressing concern!
good job, U.N.! this thing is pretty much over!
