4 years to the day since President Bush stood on the deck of the USS Abe Lincoln and declared that major combat operations where over.

just look how far we've come and how much safer we are...
was it?
it really only is a PR blunder if there was a price to pay - he continues to do as he pleases without regard so, really - it did the job it had to do then - everything else is irrelevant ...
Absolutely. Some people point to that in their unfavorable analysis of the administration. Every President is concerned with his legacy.

1. do you honestly think he cares?
2. the laundry list is so long - this is but a piece of dust in a vaccuum cleaner ...
at the time - many people bought into that farce, and that was the only purpose ... so, i don't see it as a blunder at all ... it worked great then and that is all that mattered ...
I don't know...
From a Neo-Conservative's point of view... at that specific time... it was the right thing to do. The Carrier Landing was a perfect photo op after an overwhelming military defeat. A blitzkrieg assault and the toppling of statues and happy Iraqi faces (mostly because of the shit they were scoring during the looting binge). Troops come home to a ticker tape parade in N.Y.C... a solemn speech at ground zero on the anniversary of the attacks would insure a crushing landslide defeat of anyone the Democrats put up against Bush in the 2004 elections... even if they put Jesus Himself against Bush. It was the perfect plan... if Plan A was the only outcome.
...
A lesson for President Bush and his clan... 'Plan B'. You should have had one.
Hail, Hail!!!
I know he cares. People from the Administration have been seen dropping the word "legacy" during many public appearances recently. Also, this is one of the more concrete videos out there of the President being wrong about something. Many of the accusations that get thrown around this forum are nowhere near concrete. They are beliefs that do not make as much of a dent in the overall approval rating. The internet in general, this forum being no exception, tends to represent a more extremist ideology than a typical public opinion poll.
I forgot to reply that it did serve the purpose at that time. It was a great short term move. It became a mistake later on.
well ... agree to disagree then ...
if he was truly concerned about his legacy - maybe he would do something about climate change or do something about this war ... or not continue to appoint partisan cronies to key posts ... he hasn't changed one iota ...
lastly, this president purposefully lied to take your country to war ... forget about wiretaps, patriot act, fraud elections, conspiracy theories on whatever ... this is what he will always be remembered for and the american people did nothing ... so, to me - if no one is gonna do anything about that - they ain't gonna care about a little rah rah speech then either ...
I don't know...
The shots of him sitting there, dumbfounded as airliners crashed into buildings doesn't help. I mean, even President Gilligan would have quietly excused himself from an elementary school reading lesson and gone out to the motorcade to get the latest information on the attacks.
And don't forget the Katrina disaster... and his reply when he was asked whether or not he made mistakes... or the State Of The Union Address where he proclaimed Iraq had acquired nuclear materials from Africa... or the other State Of The Union Address where Steroids in Baseball and Missions to Mars trumped the War in Iraq on the priority list. There are plenty of examples of the way this guy operates.
Bush's legacy? The WORST President in the history of Worst Presidents.
Hail, Hail!!!
We do know that his legacy will include the public opinion polls of right now but the rest of that list was made up of mainly opinions that are held by the internet posters right now. There have always been conspiracy theorists during Presidencies. They usually fall out of memory by the time a legacy is really built which is why I say that the majority of opinions held on this board and on many blogs around the internet do not impact the long term legacy of this Administration.
there is no fixing this ...
with each passing day - more theories become fact and the truth is told ... his legacy will only get worse ...
in any case - he lied to take a country to war - no one should ever forget that and no one will ...
Shouldn't POTUS be concerned with long-term moves? Short-term is shit.
Yes. This brings us full circle back to my first post in this thread.
I have to disagree. What is Nixon's legacy? The fact that his diplomatic efforts opened the doors to Red China without any threat of military action? Ushering the end of the War in Viet Nam? No... Watergate. And Clinton will be stuck with Monica Lewinski's lips on his dick for decades.
What do you believe Bush's legacy will be? Social Security reform? Steriods removed from baseball? Homeland Security? Immigration Enforcement? Hurricane Katrina response? War on Terror? War in Iraq? How have the past 7 years been better for the average American?
Hail, Hail!!!
The war, good or bad. He believes in what he is doing meaning that staying the course is going to be his legacy. He believes that it is for the best. To say that he is doing nothing to help his legacy though is one-sided.
crikey ... if "staying the course" is his legacy ... he's in trouble already ...
The idea of freeing the world of terrorists acts is a noble one. However, Bush's idea and his actions do not coincide. He plotted a bad course when he turned away from Afghanistan and towards Iraq. Staying a bad course is going to be his legacy. He needs to correct his course and get back on a track that rids the world of acts of terrorism. This task has been much more difficult to execute because the course has lead us deeper and deeper into the shitmire. It is a lot tougher to change course from here. His legacy is going to be the burden for future Presidents, as well as America, to endure.
...
If he were serious about 'Winning The war on Terrorism', he would put all of America's resources towards it... placing 300,000 U.S. troops to secure Iraq... even if it meant re-instituting the Selective Service draft. But, he's not serious about it. He's doing it on the cheap... and has been doing so from the start. Yeah, the draft would be immensely unpopular... but, in the long run... if it leads to a stable Iraq that was rebuilt into a Western Styled Democracy... which he envisions... then, what you are saying may become true.
Hail, Hail!!!
You may very well be right there. I do not know military strategy very well. All I am arguing here is that Bush believes that what he is doing is for the best and building his legacy based on what he believes is right. Many people disagree with the things that FDR did that inflated his legacy as well. This does nothing to take away from the legacy that he left. I am not trying to compare Bush to FDR, just stating that, whatever legacy is left is subject to the interpretation of the people.
I too am sure that the things Bush is doing today will get muddled up with the passage of time. But, it is almost undeniable that the Iraq War is his war and will always be seen as his war and will be a great part, if not the only part, of how his Presidency is viewed in the future. Just like Nixon will never be able to shake 'Watergate' off of his name.
Bush got a off to a good start... after the September 11th attacks and the 'Just Cause' campaign in Afghanistan against al Qaeda and the Taliban... but, that will probably get lost in the mire as time passes.
Hail, Hail!!!
So Bush is retarded.
Back in the days of "mission accomplished"
Our chief was landing on the deck
The sun was setting on a golden photo op
Back in the days of "mission accomplished"
hey, bush already explained this!!! it's not his fault for the banner or even his staff, who had it made and brought it w/ them, it's all the fault of the military b/c they were the ones who actually hung up the banner..
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
eager to identify with
someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way
bush is nothing more than a puppet
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
eager to identify with
someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way
