the dude is just counting the days till he can hit his ranch full time ... all these committees and subcommittees and special panels are great ... they keep the focus on iraq and allows him to be in the public eye ... a distraction from the fact he isn't doing squat elsewhere ...

I believe we should evolve the course which doesnt include leaving now
  • The report called for the administration to try to engage
    Syria and
Iran in diplomacy as part of an effort to bring stability to Iraq — even though Bush has said previously he would not negotiate with either country.

I think this is one of the biggest problems with the US goverment. There lack of diplomacy stems from a belief that they have the moral high ground and that they dont have to talk to anyone because any decision they take will be the correct one.

Same thing happening with Cuba. Last saturday Raul Castro said that they were willing to talk and resolve differences between Cuba and the US. US state department basically told them to go fuck themselves. and then we wonder why everyone hates the US.

Man don't even get me started on the Cuban Embargo. I will go on for days high-lighting the utter failure of the embargo.

    yup.
  • As much as I hate this war I dont think they are leaving any time soon. Sure they could drop troops levels drastically but you can be assured that 100 years from now they will still be there.

In truth, his dog also called him an idiot and proposed a ten point plan for withdrawal.

I saw a car with Kerry '04 bumpersticker this morning on the way to work, and it got me thinking how much I'd rather have him in office now than Bush, just for foreign policy reasons.

And, not to hijack the thread and get mammasan going, but the Cuba thing irritated me too. C'mon now, what would it hurt to talk to Cuba? Is our government still stuck so far back in cold war mode that they think Cuba is a treat?

Yeah i never got that, what do we care if Cuba is communist. I mean really who cares? i they want to be communist then let them. its their country. leave them alone. But that is all tangle up in US politics, the south florida vote goes to whom ever backs the Cuban exiles.

To bad we didn't try a little more diplomacy in the last oh 8 years before we committed to an invasion in the first place. Would have been a lot less expensive.

I believe we've been over Cuba before too. Geez. I wonder if we ended government supported price supports on tobacco, if that would change the US governments mind. The embargo is freaking ridiculous, but yeah we've had this discusson a million times before. I think US sugar can survive...If my bag of sugar goes up to 75 cents fine, It'd be nice to see Cuba keep some of that money at home, if it's prosperous, it would help greatly the problem of illegal emigration.

The communist deal is a red herring, we don't care, we trade with China and we trade with Venezuela and Bolivia etc. etc. The domino theory is a thing of the past. It's economic, it's someones special interest group that's benefitting from the embargo. I'd say it's US Tobacco and US Sugar.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

I completely agree with you. The US oppostion to Castro was positioned to the public as a fight againstCommunism but in truth is was over Castro's aquisition of the Cuban Tobacco and Sugar industry. He took it away from US hands, more specifically US corporate hands. Castro didn't even side with the Soviets untill the US started it's attempts to over throw him and it was then with no where to turn that he sought Soviet assistance. Our government created the threat in Cuba by refusing to deal with Castro on a diplomatic level. The embargo is a huge joke because it has no affect on the Cuban government it's affects are only felt by the population and, as someone stated, the onlyreason it is still in place today is people of Cubans and Cuban dissendents in South Florida. They are a political force down there, even on a national level, and anyone who even thinks about dropping the embargo will loose all of their support. Damn now I got into this discussion and I'm already hot-headed today. I neverunderstood the Cuban support for the embargo. It seems to me thatit is fueled more by hate for Fidel than concern for their fellow Cubans still over there. As the son of Cuban immigrants I am sickened by the embrago and the way the US have dealt with Cuba since the Spanish American War.

I'm glad George H.W. Bush is finally stepping in to bail his punk ass kid out of this mess. I was hoping, in the days after the September 11, 2001 attacks, that this administration would follow the lead of Senior Bush... which is what we did in Afghanistan... although, that was an easy call.
I am hoping that long time Bush, Sr. friends (Gates and Baker) can get this stubborn fucking spoiled asshole to see what a fucking mess he has made and try to get America back on track.
