I don't think it's hypocrisy. We all know that the 'western world' (and others) are building up an arsenal. In his speech, Putin was putting the emphasis on the fact that the US are using excessive force instead of negotiation in its application of foreign policy..

"Today we are witnessing an almost uncontained hyper-use of military force in international relations, force that is plunging the world into an abyss of permanent conflicts.." Putin said, obviously in reference to Iraq but also looking at threats to Iran, North Korea and the support of Israel.

He also said: "This is nourishing an arms race with the desire of countries to get nuclear weapons." Which is true.. As long as one country with threaten another, everyone is going to try to get one above each other!

I am not supporting Putin in his policies, etc. but what he did say had some truth in it.

I'm not debating the truth of what he said. I agree that our hyper-us of military force is definetly detrimental, but I just find it funny that a man who runs a country that sells weapons to any rogue nation would be making these statements.

Could always employ Ann Coulter as military expert. She'd just nuke the whole world so all that is left is the USA. Then she'd have all the scarey little monster demon liberals burned in an incinerator and everything but fundamentalist christianity outlawed.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

It is a little humorous the way these guys see themselves.

Nice post red rock. Putin did make some good points in that speech despite the obvious hipocracy.

Bush has been too cavilier with the military, it's perceived as shoot first and ask questions later and it makes other governments nervous (meaning they stockpile weapons and troops). Terrorism is an insanely difficult issue to contend with and even though Bush I'm sure believes he's taken the best course of action I'm not sure that even he would tell you now moving into iraq as quickly as they did was a good idea. Then combine that with Israels behavior toward thier northern neighbors and it gets testy. Governments fighting non government and governmental entities gets very very dicey. It's exactly the type of thing that can lead to open world war and the kind of thing that we are supposed to have a forum (UN) to discus and iron out our differences. Bush has acted far to unilaterally at times and it's really served to harm the stability of the world. I appreciate his decisiveness but I'm not sure his foreign policy has done a whole lot to protect the US or the world from terrorism perhaps even the opposite.

Well said. Like I stated i don't disagree with what Putin said, but just find it hippocritical that he of all people would be calling the US out on this. I thought of all people he would actually be happy since he arms the countries we attempt to bully.

We would be saying the SAME thing... if it were Russia bogged down in Baghdad and threatening to go into Iran, instead of us.

But wait wasn't Russia bogged down in Afghanistan with the same people oh say 30 years ago?

Maybe we've already seen this before.

    ...
That was the basis of my logic...
In the 1980s, The U.S. supplied and taught the Mujahadin the 'Hit and Run' tactics that the Mujahadin (a.k.a. Al Qaeda) are using against our soldiers today. The U.S. even went so far as to provide advisors and intelligence reports against uniformed Soviet troops movements. Putin hasn't gone that far... yet.
We shouldn't be criticising another country policy we designed and put into play. We should at least, accept the responsibility for our bad actions and quit playing the "But, We're the Good Guys" card all the time. Sometimes... we're the Bad Guys... we need to learn to deal with it and quit doing it.
