Anyone else receive this moviein the mail recently? I did and haven't watched it. Being this close to the election, I'm assuming it is being distributed by some fear mongering special interest group.

Anyone watch it?

It came in my Sunday paper a few weeks back. I tossed it before I even went inside. It had Religious Right written all over it (figuratively, not literally :p).

BTW, the Religious Right is neither.

I got this in the mail like a month ago.

It is propaganda. I have not watched it, it's still sitting on my desk.
Maybe i'll watch, but I'll be armed with a brain.
  • I didn't watch it... I got it a month or two ago in the mail. I moved last weekend, and it ended up in one of the many trash bags taken to the dumpster.
    My whole life

  • it was in the Miami Herald about a month ago.
i saved it and do not plan to ever watch it
    because it is racist propaganda.

i only saved it to show people who didn;t believe me when i told them it was delivered with my sunday paper.

    ugh.

wierd that it would be in the paper. Anyone know who paid for all this?
  • They did a piece about it today on Democracy Now!

    Quoted from Juan Gonzalez;

"The incident has raised concerns about increasing levels of ethnic and religious bias in US politics and the stoking of Islamophobia.

In the last few weeks, 28 million copies of a DVD titled Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West have been distributed as an advertising supplement in newspapers in key battleground states. It was paid for by the Clarion Fund, a nonprofit group established by the film’s Israeli producer with the goal of exposing what it calls the threat of radical Islam. The hour-long film features graphic, violent images and makes comparisons of Islam to Nazism."

Scary stuff to say the least...

So apparently the extremist Islamic agenda is not something to worry about. Just ignore it, it will go away.

Are you playing dumb? You know its a swift boat like attempt to scare the uninformed to associate obama and radical islam. It's pathetic, so is trying to justify it.

Actually no, saw the movie last night. It was sitting on my desk, and the conv. prompted me to play it.

There is no reference at all to today's american politics. Says absolutely nothing about Bush, Obama, McCain (pretty sure)

It is an attempt to define the problem of radical islam, nothing more. it attempts to provide insight into the psychology of the radical elements which have hijacked the religion in the first place.

It comes from a Jewish foundation, it is long on imagery, I felt that many facts were left out of the film.

Better off to research the topic yourself before you see it.

Actually based on all of your previous posts, i think i will trust every newspaper that's reported on the subject, not yours.

You can see how disconnected from reality you really are; me and my family are victims of radical islam (though my parents are muslim) so please dont try to educate me on the subject.

The Clarion Fund recently financed the distribution of some 28 million DVDs containing the film 'Obsession.......
Exactly who or what is the Clarion Fund?

The Clarion Fund is a 501 c(3) non-profit organization that apparently supports Senator John McCain for president. Why "apparently"? The Clarion Fund is responsible for paying newspapers around the United States to distribute an anti-Islam documentary as a supplement to their Sunday editions. The Huffington Post reports that the Clarion Fund has sent 28 million DVDs to at least 70 newspapers in swing states to place at the doorstep of newspaper subscribers. The Huffington Post also calls the Clarion Fund "shadowy," because the non-profit organization's financial backers are unknown.

The DVD is a 60-minute expose of militant Islam called "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West" and is ideologically slanted toward painting Muslims as evil and bent on the destruction of the United States. It was nationally premiered on Fox News during the 2006 mid-term elections. Labeled highly divisive by many mainstream religious groups, "Obsession" shows Islam as a radically dangerous religion bent on the destruction of Western civilization, interspersing incendiary commentary with images of Nazis and suicide bombing indoctrination.

You might not agree with Senator Barack Obama's political ideology, but a point he has brought up in the past several weeks is not only relevant to this issue but a blatant truth as well. At several speeches Senator Obama has made mention of the Republican propensity to play distraction games during the campaigns and elections. Obama speaks directly to the GOP tactic of fearmongering, or the politics of fear.

It seems that Republicans have a lock on national security. Why is that? According to Norman Solomon, author of War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us To Death, Democratic presidents have been just as likely to go to war or promote a military conflict as Republican presidents. So why are the Republicans seen as more hawkish?

not true, you could find out who the Clarion fund is very quickly. It's a Jewish organization, so that's good enough.
And saying the Clarion Fund supports John McCain is like saying you support french fries. gimme a break.

The Clarion Fund - a shadowy non-profit organization that does not publicize its officers, office location, or source of funding...

    Real..

    Ok...

Why were the videos only sent here...

Distribution of the DVD…was timed with the post-Labor Day start of presidential election season. About 95 percent of the papers that contained the DVD are in Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and New Hampshire.

Notice a pattern? Right, those are the swing states that most analysts believe will determine the election...

Of course it could just be a coincidence right.
