is coming to my school to give a talk to the first year students in our class. im wicked excited about it. granted i dont generally (ok, pretty much never) agree with his views and philosophy, but the guy is nonetheless pretty smart and a damn good legal mind. this is why i paid the big bucks (or rather split the bill between my scholarship and the government) to go to this school... so i can interact with people like this.

i hear he's a phenomenal speaker.

im wondering what he will say about this torture bill we've got going?

it's restricted to only first year law students. he's speaking only to the 1L class. this is the sort of thing many people would normally like tv crews in for to show off how much the school rocks. yet it's been kept VERY quiet around here. theory is, they're afraid of having a shitload of angry people show up to protest. i suppose i cant blame them, he's a pretty controversial guy.

ok, good. i felt a momentary pang of guilt, like i was blowing the school's cover or something ;)

    it's still pretty sweet though.

yea it is. but be careful what you say around here. im sure there are already people making signs and banding together.

no matter what his views, he does deserve some level of respect, sitting on our highest court. hopefully you can post here how the speech was.

edit: you have a shitload of posts. damn

You say he's contoversial but that's mor a media creation than based on fact. From what I can tell he's been pretty non-controversial since becoming Justice Scalia.

ask him for me why we can't know what cheney and the energy companies discussed when making our nation's energy policy
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way

That is very cool :) Congratulations! Any time you get to be face to face with a piece of American history that is something to get excited about. I am sure his discussion will be interesting to say the least.

I wonder if you think you'll have an opportunity to speak with him? A Q&A session? And again, congrats! What an awesome opportunity.

I had an opportunity to meet George Bush Sr. at a business confrence last year. I don't personally agree with his political ideologies. I was still floored to be in the presence of someone of his stature. I was surprised when after his speech he sat down with a small group of us (I won a place in this small group in a lottery of sorts). He was extremely personable, and larger than life in a way. He even took the opportunity to casually poke fun at his son, who followed in his footsteps to the whitehouse. :)

I will be sure to check back and see what your impressions were.
