this band gives and gives....

wonder why the mentally ill who live in a nightmare of what is insane in the end. i dont see much attention to the poor who cant afford a doctor. who can afford the meds that make him feel real. instead, he take the cheap ones that make him feel the concrete just a bit softer cause his just lucky today that some doc was empathic enough to disbelieve his prophecy that Jesus loves him will make it all better.

dont worry the lithim is cheap and take the burden off jesus anyway.

but what about Weslely Willis? Some angel at least let him speak his unsane mind.

I love it when people mention wesley willis because it makes me feel like I hung out with someone who is actually famous. Yep, I hung out with the late great mr. willis for a couple of hours backstage at the Casbah in San Diego. That dude was seriously nuts, but in a kick-back kind of way. He was munching on a submarine sandwich when he offered the rest of it to a friend of mine.

At some point he reached down and pulled out a CD case full of burned CD's of music. $20 a pop. A couple of women walked up to say hello, and he leaned forward towards one of them and pressed the birthmark on his forehead up against her forehead. Some guy goes, "Hey, Wesley, what's your favorite animal?" Everyone breaks out laughing. Wesley goes, "F#$@k a kangaroo's ass," or some shit. "Lick a donkey's balls...etc."

"Your" poem confuses schizophrenia with multiple personality disorder, which isn't surprising considering the confusion seems to be very common.

Yeah, I heard that, although I've not seen the movie.

Friend of mine has been suffering with schizophrenia for years. She is really messed up. A few years ago, she tried going without her meds for a few days and she ended up jumping off of a freeway overpass. She was in the hospital for weeks. Now she's pretty much blind in one of her eyes and she has a big dent in the back of her neck for some reason.

She periodically cries uncontrollably. She has paranoid delusions. And she also has the voices, which haunt her late at night and keep her from sleeping. She has tried to go to college, but she can't stay focused for long enough.

But, contrary to what the original post of this thread implies, she is not denied any medical services or medications. In fact, she lives comfortably on disability and is properly hospitalized whenever the need should arise. I'm not sure why she has been able to receive these benefits when others have not. I think maybe it's because her parents are good at filling out paperwork.

As I understand it, she was on the swim team in high school. All of the sudden she came down with this disease and things went pretty much down hill from there. That was, I don't know, about ten years ago or so.

On the other hand, she is a very friendly person for all intents and purposes. If you say hello, she'll say hello back. If you try to strike up conversation, it's obvious that she makes an earnest effort to follow along.

Anyway, her parents do a lot of the legwork for her in terms of making sure that she is afforded every resource the state of california has to offer. There's just no way she could do this herself. So, that's why I conclude that people who aren't receiving medical services for their mental disabilities are just not lucky enough to have someone there to help them with things like paperwork from time to time.

or they are persistent. i think perhaps people give up when social security says no the first time. mostly, unless you have a 'disease ending in death' (their phrase) you get denied at least once or twice. that's why there are so many lawyers who specialize in getting ssdi benefits for people. i also think it's because people just don't know where to go to get the help. and if you are in the kinda shape your friend is n others can be, it's hard to maintain n butt heads to get thru all the bs red tape interviews, paperwork etc etc. unless you have someone with power of attorney or an advocate helping you, if you are sick n alone, it's so very hard to get it done.

Prolly. They live on passive income (ie investments), so they have all day to drive around town banging on doors. In fact, that's pretty much what they do.

    Beautiful Man…
I have no idea what your saying except maybe your trying to get a little more brown shit on your face and lips by kissing your leaders ass…

Anyways, I just have to ask…If schizophrenia is boring, you must lead an exceptionally exciting life. Are you a rockstar or professional athlete or something?
    Just curious…

I don't think you got the message he was trying to send. He was expressing his disdain for the system through satire.

    Are you sure?

I admit that his sentence structure is in dire need of fine-tuning. So, for that reason, I give you the benefit of the doubt.

However, I think what he is trying to say that is that schizophrenics who are poor cannot afford the really expensive schizo drugs like risperidone, and are instead given the less expensive and less effective drugs like lithium, which are really designed for other disorders such as bi-polar disorder.

Then he goes on to comment on how society unfairly expects the mentally ill to turn to religion for help. Then he praises the doctor who takes pity on them.

Then he pays lip service to Wesly Willis for at least being to bring able to bring some attention to the subject of that particular illness.

No, thank you for giving me the opportunity to clarify something to someone. I spend 8 hrs a day getting treated like I'm a monkey that was born from a crack-polluted womb -all because I don't play office politics. At least on the internet I am capt. stfu.
