Basically he traveled around the world knowing that he had a dangerous strain of TB and that he could infect people he came in contact with.

Yes, permanent house arrest until they find a way for him to not be infectuous.

Well, considering the TB he was carrying has a 50% chance of killing people, some consequence seems reasonable.

he has an armed guard outside his isolation room at a hospital and he's stuck there until he's no longer infectious.

In other words, the only way he's leaving the hospital is probably in a coffin... which is as it should be.

...well, at least no one would want to make him their prison bitch.

As for jail, he made a mistake but did he break a law? Jail is for folks that break laws.

If he knew he was a carrier, and intentionally did nothing to prevent the TB spread, he probably did break the law.

If you haven't, go read up on Typhoid Mary.

I've heard of Typhoid Mary, but I don't think she was put in jail either, nor convicted of any crime, nor broke any law, etc. etc. In Canada a guy (ex-football player) was convicted cuz he had sex with women with full knowledge that he was hiv-positive. Kinda similar situation.

i don't know what the morbidity rate for that type of TB is...i'm sure the odds of him leaving the hospital are fairly good.

of course, someone would have to had contracted it from him. If no one contracts it from him did he break the law or just go against medical advice...which is not illegal.

Interesting questions...but the real crime is in the unsafe act/behavior...whether or not anyone contracts TB or not is a matter of luck really. So, personally, I think putting people's lives at risk should be enough for some punishment...now is it? Don't know.

Turns out the guy was a personal injury lawyer and now the people on the plane have to get tests for the next few years or something.

I like how he saws he was just scared. You know if it wasn't him, he'd be calling all those people on the plane and asking if they'd like his representation.
