Todd Palin, husband of Sarah, was a member of the secessionist Alaska Independence Party from 1995 through 2002. That's the information we just got from the Alaska Division of elections.

Probably not coincidentally, 2002 was the first time Sarah Palin ran for statewide office in Alaska.

lots of other links, but one i found had this quote: Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, told ABC News on Monday that Palin and her husband Todd were members in 1994, even attending the 1994 statewide convention in Wasilla. Clark was AIP secretary at the time.

Probably not, I don't think it matters. Thing is, there's alot of criticism to be levelled at the candidate herself that make her a sub-standard VP pick. Why involve her family? I know, the right-wing has been after Michelle Obama in a ridiculous way (to be fair, Cindy McCain hasn't had it easy either, though she has had it easier), but let's keep the bloodshed there.

I agree, what does it matter if her husband was a member of a certain party. We should be judging candidates on their policies and their actions. Not those of their family members.

  • I was thinking that this may calm down the right's portrayal of Michelle Obama as an America hater, but I doubt it.

No because they are hypocrites. Just like the situation with Bristol. Had this happened to Biden's or Obama's 17 year old daughter they would have feasted on her. The Christian right would have damned the girl to hell for being a whoring heathen. Just like how some Democrats will fight tooth and nail for equality in the work place for women but then criticize Sarah Palin for being a worker mother and had she been there for Bristol this pregnancy would not have happened.

Be careful what you hope for. If the South were a separate country, they'd bomb us for oil.

Well, after all the noise they made about Wright, they'll now have to dismiss AIP founder Joe Vogler's remarks about the American flag being a "damn flag" as entirely irrelevant in consideration of anything. They'll look like the hypocrites they are, in the process.

Wow. Are you one of these tolerant liberals I hear about? You are full of hate and a despicable person. Zing!

But seriously...I do think you are a despicable person, and that liberal elites are the biggest classists and racist of them all.

So you call him out for generalizing then go do the same. A bit hypocritical don't you think.

At least be honest. If the shoe was on the other foot the 'who's your daddy' stickers would be right next to the 'support the troops' stickers. M. Obama would be spit on that's how bad it would have been for her. She wouldn't be seen as a happy, expectant grandmother, or the mother doing the right thing in supporting her daughter, she'd be label a whore just like her daughter. Obama would be forced out of the race.

Yet, here's daddy who has drinking problem, a daughter out there having unprotected sex, a rookie politician who is clearly not in control of family matters on all levels and politics on a national level at a time when both the domestic and foreign issue of this country will need her undivided attention. The RNC thinks this is good enough for the White House, the American people and our allies and enemies alike. What the hell, we might just end up with our first person to go postal in the White House.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.

He mentioned he wished that we could bomb out of existence a group of people in the south, whether they are Bible thumpers or not. That would mean the deaths of millions. Granted, he would not hit the button, I hope, but he did say what he said, and shows how much hate there is for people who he disagrees with.

I never said I wanted to bomb intolerant liberals off the earth. I don't see what is hypocritical. So I believe that far left liberals are the biggest racists of them all. Doesn't mean I hate them and want them bombed off the earth.

i'm not a liberal. i'm a centrist. i only hate them more because there's more of them... enough to make a serious dent in national politics. i hate the extreme left just as well. but they're fewer in numbers and so PC-obsessed they can't focus on anything long enough to make an impact before chasing off after some other nonsense issue. so they're not as much of a threat as the guns and god idiots.

if they're allowed to be racist, sexist morons, then i can be prejudiced against them.

i'm open to views different from my own. i'm not open to idiocy. the southern christian fundies are as scary and dangerous to this country as islamic fanaticism. all i'm doing is turning their own rhetoric against them. boy do they hate seeing how it feels to be subjected to the kind of anger and prejudice they subject others to on a daily basis.

No but you are both generalizing, him the Conservative Christians and you liberals. Both, in my opinion, show a sign of ignorance.

I think Cindy McCain has had it remarkably easy... compared to the way Republicans treated John Kerry and his "sugar mama" Theresa Heinz Kerry in 2004, the Democrats have been downright saintly in the way they've treated John and Cindy "sugar mama" McCain...

Unless they are up there giving a speech family members should be off-limits.

I'm just curious though...where was all this outrage when Michelle Obama was being slandered as a racist and a terrorist?

Correction - Unless they are up there giving a policy speech, family members should be off-limits. Having Michelle Obama, Laura Bush or Nancy Reagan giving a speech about their spouse doesn't make them fair game. However, someone like Hilary Clinton speaking about healthcare initiatives does open her up fir criticism.
