I could have sworn Obama voted against Bush's economic stimulus package. Now he's for sending out more checks?

I'm serious. Obamaniacs, somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I can't say I ever remember him being against the stimulus package. However, he is an opponent of the Bush Tax Cuts, so maybe that's where your confusion is coming in.

    Maybe that's it.

At any rate, I'm never going to turn down free money, but this strikes me as perhaps a very bad idea.

It's an election year ploy. Both parties are guilty of it. Will it really stimulate the economy? Probably not.

I wonder how close to November people would receive said checks. :p

Oh, I know. I don't this against him, really. For a guy all about change though, this plan seems awfully status quo.

It's not about getting the checks close to November. It's about being out on the stump and saying, "we in Congress passed bi-partisan legislation to ease the burden off of you hard working folks with an economic stimulus package".

Who cares if he status quo on this issue? He wasn't status quo on the gas tax holiday, which is yet another election year ploy.

Yeah, that one was stupid, too. I guess I'm sick of all the pandering, which is coming from both sides. And it's only June ...

I believe the House Dems objection was to include the elderly who do not pay taxes to get the stimulus checks, and now I can't remember which version (House or Senate) got passed.

    Yeah, it all runs together.

Here's one: If Barack was against the original Bush tax cuts, it stands to reason he'll eventually reverse them while in office ... so we'll be giving our stimulus checks back anyway.

See, it all comes out in the wash!

One chamber wanted everyone included, and one wanted just the elderly. I'm not sure which one, but I believe the House wanted everyone included now that I think about it, and the Senate just wanted to cover the elderly.
