Voting

I read a comment in the 'please vote tomorrow' thread, and one person said that because they don't respect the political process, they do not intend to vote.

I ask this question: If the RIGHT to vote were taken away from people like that, would they complain about that, and would they have the audacity to complain about the state of the nation/world by not exercising a privilege that millions of people around the globe are denied based on gender, or being in a communist country? Where is the sense of being a participant in a democracy where you have a voice to help elect someone you believe in. Sure, democracy got fucked in 2000 and 2004, can it happen again, yes, but I'm personally damn determined to vote my conscious regardless!

In a way, I'm glad such people do not vote because they are self-serving and have no hope for the well being of all, let alone their own city, county, state or country. Saying that you don't believe in voting, to me implies that you simply don't give a damn about the political condition of your world.

Here's a link to a story about non-voters

I want to be able to vote the issues and not the candidates. I would favor some sort of internet voting whereby the general public can vote on each issue.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.

We have the tools now to actually make this country a democracy and not a republic. Don't fool yourself into thinking voting is equatable with democracy, democracy is the idea that the citizens care enough to run their own government, through their elected officials. It is not that elected officials run the government simply through their votes.

Every bill and piece of legislation can be posted on the internet to get feedback from the constituents. Eventually many will be able to navigate through the legalize and Robert's rules, one day it may come that interactive communications technology can save us from the disposition of the powerhungry representing those that reject power.

That's my rant for this term. Godspeed to the voting booths, hopefully someone can mediate this clusterfuck we call a government right now. Though I have my doubts both ways. A desperate politician is worse than a caged mongoose.

I agree. In all truth, who cares about the candidate anyway? It's the issues that are important. It shouldn't be to where if you vote for a candidate you are actually voting for issues you do support as well as voting for issues you do not support.
