you continue to dodge my points, this is the third time youve dodge them and asked me something else.
Ireland is at crossroads, it cant and will not go back to the dark old days, people in the south dont want it, people in the north dont want it, people in GB dont want it.
The first poin t you say about is the british people in the north,
nobody argued about that, we all know about the plantation and how it all came about, but thats history and ireland is moving forward, and ireland is no longer about the land, ireland is no longer about borders, because there is no border anymore, and through sinn fein and the north south bodys, more and more things are on an all ireland basis and if they arent they are moving that way.
water, electric, business groups, phone tariffs, sports groups ...you name it.
There is no longer the cry of...no surrender from the loyalists, they realise now that they are closer with dublin then they are to london and that they have more in common with dublin than they have with london.
now when you hear ian paisley talk on tv he doesnt talk of picking up guns and deffending yourself against the IRA, like he used to, he is on tv now working with sinn fein and working toward a "NEW IRELAND"
The past is dead and buried..ireland has come out of the shadows, loyalist and republicans now realise that they have more in common than they had to fight about. the people on the mainly catholic working class falls road and the mainly protestant shankill road are now working together and not fighting.
so the plan is for a "new ireland" for all its people...not just the unionist and republican...but for all the minority groups...everyone must have a say in the new ireland...its not about this land is mine....or this land is ours and not yours...its all ours and we all must learn to share this land together be you a british citizen or a muslim, just like the republic has british citizens there too, what did they do with them???? so i find your question silly as per usual...
i take it you have heard of Theobald Wolfe Tone?
Theobald Wolfe Tone Eighteenth-century Protestant lawyer was one of the few leaders of his time who was well-respected in Dublin and Belfast. In the autumn of 1791, he called for Irish independence and a rapprochement between Protestants and Catholics. Tone was involved in the creation of the Society of United Irishmen, which had chapters in Belfast and Dublin.
Theobald wolftone of everyman to come together under the one banner of "irishman" and not as protestant and catholic.
but funny enough that too is in the past...but we now have a new dawn in ireland...north and south...that we are all irish and must share this land and forget about our differences.
the people in scotland and wales can be scotish and welsh and british at the same time cant they? well if people want to be british thats fair enough..it is your right to be british if you want to be, juts like 40% of people in the north are irish, it is their right...but we must live together as irishmen..and there is nobody these days...not even unionists who will deny being irish, they will always defend their right to be a british subject and they are...and thats fair play to them.
but we are all part of this "new ireland" because like it or not the people of ireland north and south voted for it in 1998...it has took us a long time to get here but now were here and we can walk hand in hand as irishmen and women in the new ireland.
some people are still apossed to this but they are few and far between and violence is a thing of the past.
if you want to be british then thats your right, if you want to be irish then fair enough...the only thing that has been agreed on is that if any fighting is done it is done in the assembly and if there is to be a united ireland it will be by consent of the people in the six counties...
but as everyone already knows its the people of ireland that are united and there is no border anymore...there has been long years of fighting and it has just ended, so it will take time to gain the trust of our unionist friends before they can see that we are brothers and there is a place in the new ireland for british people too.
thats a great history lesson but do you realise you're repeating points made in our posts. your patriotism is great but you're offending people here and to be honest i dont believe for one second that youve ever been to the republic or the north of ireland. if youre gona spend so much time ranting maybe you should read the responses instead of claiming we're "avoiding the issues".
im confused by every tribunal. and even if i can make sense of them, then i wonder how there wasnt a better way to deal with these problems of corrupt planning or bribes than a tribunal?
that said, there have been significant coups made by the Criminal Assets Bureau recently, i think theyre entitled to recover profits made by companies on land that has been illegitimately zoned.
theres an awful lot of red-tape involved with little evidence of a return for the money these things cost to run...
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

To answer your question, i was born in ireland and have lived here for 30 years..and i didnt repeat anything i made a point to answer the question i was asked and i answered it. i couldnt have been repeating mysef because i was only asked it one post back.

Huh? I believe you are agreeing with me. My first point was NOT about the protestants in the north... I agree with pretty much everything you said there... I don't think you saw my post at the bottom of the last page?
Look for a start I do not HAVE TO agree with anything... and I certainly don't agree. Can I ask where you're from? Secondly, I'm not FROM the North, if I were and if I wanted a united Ireland I would vote for them... cos that's actually all they have to offer... if even that, it's still not quite cut and dry. They have no other decent policies to offer at all... my priorities are likely not the same as yours, hence the reason we HAVE different parties, and I would certainly not tell anyone they voted for the wrong party. I have my own opinions and everyone has theirs, all I can do is try and convince them I'm right... but I don't know if I am or not. And for your information I did not vote for labour, I voted socialist (Joe Higgins) no. 1 and green party no. 2.
Now, I cannot understand why you're suddenly getting so offensive. The reason I said Sinn Fein followed by is because they have nothing to offer. You may see the romantic view of a united Ireland and yes, in a perfect world, I'd love one too... but it simply is not realistic IN MY OPINION. What the fuck is Ireland these days anyway but a European state... it's NOT the romantic Ireland that you and others still argue for. As for the fight for Irish freedom that you refer to, well I'm free... and a lot freer than most countries in the world. I'm also well aware of what northern people on BOTH sides have had to put up with over the 40 years... TOO well aware, don't tell me what I know and what I don't know! I don't think either side (well, the majority on either side) WANTED that.
I come from a border town so I was brought up with a fairly one sided view of things but I've been taught by some northern protestants I've become pretty close to that the reality isn't so one sided and clear cut. It is not for me to say what's best for the people of the north. But I certainly do not think Sinn Fein or the DUP or ANY politicians have the answers.
I certainly don't recall suggesting that the issue in the north is resolved... wow, where did ya get that from? A 3 year old could tell you there's still a long long way to go but the process has began and I think we should all support it.

Sooooooooooooooo we ALMOST... FINALLY... have a new government
It should be an interesting one too... clever choice going for the greens I believe since there's such a big emphasis on green stuff these days, FF can leave it up to them to implement it... and if THEY fuck up, FF can pass the blame . It's just what I'D do were I in their shoes. Probably the same reason there's talk of Mary Harney retaining health ministry  cos there can't be any OTHER reason... surely?

the Greens seem divided over the deal....theyre voting as we speak...i hope they dont end up being the fall guys for FF.
The 2 PD's, Jackie Healy-Rae, Michael Lowry and Beverly Flynn are currently signing agreements to support Bertie, so it would seem that it might not matter from FF's view if the Greens dont accept the deal...but hopefully they will accept it.

Of COURSE they'll end up being fall guys. That's what FF do... give the unpopular positions to 'others' and then blame them when it all goes wrong! It's why we all hate the PD's and with good reason too!
I hope they accept it too... I don't want another FF PD government
I saw Finian McGrath on the news last night also saying he was in talks with FF.

totally agree! i was more hoping they wont be fall guys, but i know they will...unless they surprise us all. but they wont surprise anyone cos their hands will be tied behind their backs once they get the difficult jobs...TREVOR SARGENT FOR HEALTH!

see the futures looking up already?
Oh my god a politician actually stuck to his word... he stepped down as leader of the greens like he said... so he'll only have a junior ministry. I'm lucking forward to seeing how they get dished out... I want to see Dermot Ahern get one of the big jobs and see how he copes with that... justice is up for grabs
It's looking like Harney'll stay on as health.
