From the August 2008 edition of Harper's Index:

Number of corporations that have publicly committed to sponsoring the Democratic National Convention, as of June: 75
Number for the Republican National Convention: 50

And we all know who really runs this country.

I wish corporations really did run the country instead of our lame, over-spending, war-mongering government.

That's why they are more than willing to give millions and millions to their particular parties cause they KNOW it's coming back down the road. You know we are always in a war or getting ready to start one.

War keeps this country and government going via the millions from the corps.

If in doubt, assume that we're doing it for oil.

I know some anti-semites on another board who constantly blame everything on "the Jews."

Both are scapegoat assumptions. When you can blame everything on corporations, or on oil, or even on the Jews, the world becomes a much simpler place. You don't need to do so much durn' thinkin' that you might otherwise have to do if the answer was a bit more complex.

That list only indicates the number of corporations that have publicly shown support for Obama. I'm no Obama supporter for sure, but I strongly doubt that most businesses want him to become president.
All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

There is a creature out there called a lobbyist... they out number congress 8-1 in DC.

To further your thoughts please research how many ex-congress"people" work for lobby firms after term or after defeat. (so much so their exists laws to report such activity)

    Benefiting does not equal controlling.

Yeah because we all know how cheap oil and gas is since we went into Iraq and took over all their oil fields. Great observation!

If it means we can look forward to President Obama being sworn in January 2009, I don't care if the NRA comes out in support of him. In the current climate, in this dreadful state of disrepair our nation is in, the ends may just justify the means this time around, imo.

I don't trust John Q. Voter to know his ass from a hole in the wall when it comes to which of these candidates REALLY gives a shit about them. I KNOW McCain doesn't. I'm willing to bet that Obama does, and I'm okay with whoever shows him their support. I don't care if that sounds like a sell out or a compromise or whatever other hyper-left mud someone feels like slinging my way. I want Obama to be President.

    Let the games begin.

are you suggesting that corporations have not conveniently benefited from wars?

I agree with one thing: if someone shows you support, it doesn't necessarily mean you agree with him or his views because you may have never even talked to him.

however, when it's corporations who CLEARLY play important roles in your campaign, and, more importantly, campaign DECISIONS, then you know it will be in their best interests... hint: the corporations' best interest is not usually ours.

we're not saying they want to make oil cheap, they just want control over it. in fact, why would they want it to be cheap? they're not doing it for us. ExxonMobil keeps making record profits... it's not rocket science.

i have a friend who served in Iraq twice. he's told me all about how Halliburton's subsidiary KBR overcharges for their services. they charge the government $99 to wash a bag of laundry. this is not a joke. and he says they do a shit job at everything they do.

corporations are the pimps, and most of our top government officials are the prostitutes. it's blatantly true. and if you keep ignoring it, YOU are responsible.

hint: nobody's best interest is always ours. But, I trust a corporation far more than I trust the government.

who here is talking about 'always'?

and the fact that corporations CONTROL the government kind of goes against your entire belief, lol.

That's exactly what I was thinking. These corporations have bought the government and control what it gets done...their interests are looked after much more often than the interests of the average person because they have bought the protection the government is supposed to offer the people right out from under us. And the sad thing is, so many of us, including some in this thread, are perfectly okay with it as long it's their team that wins.

Pssst.....it's the same team, guys and none of us are going to be winning a damn thing.

this is about the convention, not the obama campaign. the democratic party can't afford all those balloons all by themselves!
