Yeah, Eli just left my house in Asheboro - but he's in Pineville now (near Charlotte) to see Matt & Heather - two pleasant people :) I volunteered to go pick him up cause he was stranded in Pittsboro with another flat tire. It was getting dark & I knew that the flat would probably delay him another day - so I figured I'd help him out a little. He was able to hang out for a couple of days & we were able to fix his tire with a *puncture resistant* tube so that maybe he won't have that problem again. And we were able to take up CCFA's slack by updating his flyers, to make them more presentable, that he is handing out & posting along his way to raise awareness & get all the contributions that he can for this charity -

-Everyone should get an update from him in the next day or two

I would like to add that we need to spread awareness for what Eli is doing - he's really working hard trying to raise this money for CCFA - while putting his life in danger in the process. CCFA is really being slow about helping him out - what little that they have done - so it looks like us PJ fans are going to have to help him spread the word & we all need to support him anyway we can - be it monetary contributions, or just showing him our love & support, because after meeting Eli, I see that this is really something that is very dear to his heart. And he is truly a great guy with a huge heart. As of right now - there has been nearly $600 raised, and while Eli is very proud of that, I think he was hoping that he had raised more than that - so now I'm asking all PJ fans to help out, if not by contributing yourself, then by getting the word out to everyone you can about what Eli is doing so maybe we can get more donations for him to help him reach his goal.
We need to help be his voice!!!!! PJ FANS - UNITE!!!!!!

Eli - thanks for the great time - it was really a pleasure meeting you -
I'm rooting for you all the way!!!

Mandi - get ready - he's heading your way next!!!! Nice talking w/you too!!!

Good luck Stickboy. You are doing a cross country cycling trip in a unique manner. You are traveling east to west and you started your trip at the end of summer. Most cyclists do it the easy way from west to east so the prevailing winds are at their back. And they do it in the summer when there is less chance of bad weather. So kudos to you for being so brave. You should include in your flyers the fact that you are doing it "different" than the rest.

  • WOW! I haven't visited the pit for a wee while and this thread has blown me away!
What a fantastic journey you have taken on, Eli. I'm just about to pop over and make a donation and hope many many others do the same.
Disappointed reading the posts about the CCFA :( But.... know that there are a tonne of fellow PJ fans supporting your amazing efforts!

.......and whenever you start up a hill, or feel a bit weery.....imagine us all behind you - pushing you along :D
stay safe and I will be visiting the pit more often again....to keep up with how you're travelling.

THANKS for being such an awesome human being, Eli :)
  • has he been on any tv news stations?

  • Just been over to make a donation....sorry if this is a silly question....but...there are 2 separate boxes to donate - there's one that is titled 'Fees' (ya have to choose one of these options) and then another below titled 'Other Donation' and states "This is a third party event not sponsored by the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, but monies raised will be donated to CCFA."

If I only donate in the box titled 'Fee's' does this donation count towards what Eli has raised? or is the 'Other Donation' the only one that goes towards Eli's efforts??
  • Jason....can u help me out with my question, please :) (in the post before yours).
I'd like to make a donation before I head to bed and just wanna make sure what I donate counts towards what Eli raises. Hope it makes sense?

I wanted to know the answer to that question as well as I was worried that the unexplained 'FEES' might keep some from donating.

I just called the NY chapter of the CCFA and am waiting for Norman Reece (sp?) to get back to me. I'll let you know if I find anything out!

Eli... I just read your blog entry on the rain/green/$5-$10-$20... :\ Again proof... the world is peppered with weirdos! Good thing we are fortunate enough to know some of the really good ones :)

I just got off the phone with the NYC CCFA. If you check
    http://www.ccfa.kintera.org/cyclingacrossamerica
now you'll see that the structure of the donations has been modified. It will give you choices of 'color levels' of donations and then allow you to make an additional donation in a blank field if you choose.

I also confirmed that all 'FEES' that had been collected prior to the change were indeed lumped in with any donations made. The reason the page was set up like that in the first place was just an oversight. It was a template page that is used for events like 'walks/runs'... where the people signing up are generally paying a 'FEE' to sign up for the event then making a donation. The gentleman I spoke to apologized for the confusion and said he could understand the concern of those wanting to donate but being unsure of what the 'fees' were for.

To clear up any confusion regarding the statement of this being a 'third party fund raising effort and not sponsored by the CCFA' ... that's basically a CYA (Cover Your Ass) statement (which is very common) so that if anything crazy or bad or weird (too late! :p ) happens to Eli... they they are in no way responsible.

And though it says "but monies raised will be donated to CCFA"... All money donated goes DIRECTLY to the CCFA! It is not gathered by Eli then given to them, he has no direct connection to the donations... other than being the Amazing Reason It's All Happening :D

So... GIVE!!! Hell, I'm more broke than broke and managed to scrape a few $$ together... Roll Your Pennies!! :D

If $1.00 was charged every time this thread was viewed...

Eli would have already raised over $3000!! :\

If every one that looks at this thread from today on donates just $10.00...

YOU will be a small part of making a BIG difference!! :D

    ... and...

Eli & I had discussed that - which we both thought was pretty f**ked up, and we do understand their liability - but we wondered why not sponsor him anyways & just make him sign a liabiility waiver form so that they're not responsible if anything should happen to him???? I think having the CCFA back him up will get him more donations - as that way everyone who he comes in contact with will know that what he is doing is legit.

BTW jamainiac - thank you very much for stepping up to the plate to help out Eli - he really needs all our help. Every person that we get to help is more money donated in Eli's name, which will make his trip worthwhile. I would hate to see him make his destination without his monetary goal. He's really putting a lot of heart, soul, blood, sweat & tears into this.

And honestly, we had discussed me trying to get up with Mike to see if he could help us out with CCFA sponsorship - surely he has enough pull :) I'm gonna try anyways . . .

I just made a donation......I'm pretty broke at the moment, but figure every little bit helps and I aim to make a donation each week, until Eli reaches his destination- I've decided that if I DON'T buy a chocie bar or treat, each time I go to the shop, that money can then be donated :)

I REALLY hope everyone jumps on board and donates and helps Eli reach his goal!
I'm off to spread the word on our Aussie forum.
    GO ELI!!!!!

anyways, got this email last week from CCFA:

    Hello Eli,

As of our last update of $560 with 14 donors there was no further activity on the page.

We changed the word “fee” to “donation” from the color category area, since according to your sister Maria, it was a bit confusing for donors who were not sure if it was a registration fee or a full donation.

In addition, we changed the word donation to “additional donations” to accommodate the donors who wanted to make an additional donation separated from the color coded categories.

Below is the list of donors who have generously donated in your honor:

    Barbara A (Green)
    Susan C (Blue)

    Veronica D(Green)
    Marina F (Blue)
    David F(Black)

    Ana H (Blue)
    Jason L (Red)
    Demetrios L (Green)

    Barbara M (Blue)

    Joseph M (Black)
    Philippa S (Black)

    Lisa T (Blue)

    Maria T (Blue)
    Marco V (Green)

    Keep up the good work!

We would love to feature your event in our next newsletter, so please send us some pictures.

Thank you and congratulations on a great job!

I took out peoples last names for privacy reason obviously but there you are. I asked them to hook up the page like they did McCreadys to show an update and a list of who's donated so far and they said theyre working on it in the meanwhile heres an update ;)
I said it before and I'll say it again prolly a million more before its all over

OK, I now know that I spend way to much time at the AET! I missed this thread!

OK, so donating took all of 2 minutes folks! Just drop in and click a couple of buttons. Makes you feel real good too!! I am taking the money from quitting smoking (See our fun thread over in AET - a little advertising) and spreading the love.

Great cause and Stickboy, you are truly an inspiration! The Blueshirts seemed to be doing well while you are out of town so you may want to extend your trip :D

A lil update on behalf of eli:

So he made just right outside of Savannah GA. He is taking a break at the moment due to a disheartening lack of support from the charity he is riding for. The branch of ccfa that he has been dealing with has shown very little interest and minimal support for the cause. I let him explain further if he chooses to do so.

Basically, he cannot do this event without the support of a non profit organization. Otherwise his friends and himself would have the whole thing set up already.

Due to the charity issue, he is considering finishing the trip down to the Florida area until the cold front passes. He would like to do this so he can continue to raise awareness and money for chron's and colitis until he decides what his next step should be.

I will be contacting ccfa tomorrow to see if its at least possible to allow my boyfriend, who is a website designer to create the site for them and him alike. (He needs some very basic features to make the website less confusing and easier to manage than what he was dealt with)

word, happy election week ya'll *heres to getting a last minute email from ten club so eli can watch vfc*
