Minneapolis bridge collapses into Miss. River
NBC: All city’s ambulances called to scene; vehicles fall into water
MINNEAPOLIS - A busy highway bridge that spans the Mississippi River just northeast of Minneapolis collapsed during rush hour Wednesday, sending a school bus, other vehicles and tons of concrete crashing into the water.
The entire span of the Interstate 35W bridge collapsed about 6:05 p.m. A tractor-trailer caught fire, and flame and black smoke billowed into the sky.
Local media reported 20 to 30 injuries but initially no deaths. NBC News reported that every Minneapolis ambulance had been requested to the scene.
Local television stations captured video of injured people being carried up the riverbank. Divers were also in the water.
Workers have been repairing the bridge surface as part of improvements along that stretch of the interstate, StarTribune.com reported. At least eight cars and a truck fell into the river.
Some people were stranded on parts of the bridge that aren't completely in the water.
A tractor-trailer is on fire at the collapse scene.

Scary scary stuff.
Reminds me of that "Mothman Prophecies" movie and that earthquake in Oakland during the World Series.0 -
ive been watching this on msnbc for a 1/2 hour now. how does a bridge just collapse? so far no fatalities..... if that holds true it is amazing. that school bus looks like it was just feet from going into the river itself along the railing. but they are saying there were about 30 kids on the bus and they all survived.
on a side note... just to point out how our modern language has been perverted... they are talking about how horrifying this event is, and that 30 kids left the bus with bloody faces and were frantic and crying... all of the abulances in the twin cities area have been dispursed to the scene.. and possibly 50 cars fell 40 feet into the mississippi river... and there is a crawler at the bottom of the screen saying " not terror related" NOT TERROR RELATED????? what would constitute terror related? i know what they mean of course... but it just goes to show how absurd the whole "war on terror" phrase is. "not terrorist related" seems more appropriate.0 -

Anytime there is something this large and devistating , they will mention something about it being terror related or not ...because that's what people are thinking.
This is bad, in any eventI'll keep taking punches

i know.... but the use of that word is just so absurd..... cnn said it even worse than the crawler on msnbc... the reporter said and i quote " we have no reason to believe that terror was involved" MY ASS! I guaran-mutherfuckin'-tee that terror was greatly involved. what was happiness involved? at least if i was driving across a bridge and my car fell 40 feet into the mississippi river, terror would have been a major factor for me. again, i know they are talking about terrorist activity, but it does not make it any less absurd to see all that devistation and hear the news reporter say that terror was not a factor in the event. it is as if the word has been transformed from an emotion or state of mind into an enemy... i hope when we win the war on terror we can go to war against sorrow, feeling lonely, and boredom.0 -
I've been watching it for a few minutes and didn't see the terror scrawl and not once did I think it might be terror related. Isn't that weird?
Also how can they say for certain it isn't so soon after the fact?
I mean I'm sure it isn't but that seems like bad journalism to me (I do have a Journalism degree).
Anyway, yeah it looked like an earthquake hit but obviously there wasn't one. I'm shocked there are only 3 fatalities so far with so much traffic on there.30+ Shows over 15 years

George Bush did it. Dick Cheney told him to do it. Those are fake cars on the bridge. The real cars were diverted to a secret military parking garage. There is no way that a steel structure has ever collapsed due to cars driving on it. There were witnesses that heard a loud noise when it collapsed so that means explosives had to have been used. You are all sheep!!! WAKE THE FUCK UP!!!!!! ALEX JONES IS GOD!!!!!!!
Ha! Roland I beat you to it0 -

i would suspect similar to a case in quebec - the inspectors who gave the bridge a thumbs up didn't really do a thorough job ...0

I think we all know what he is trying to say... and in some respects, in the truest sense of the word "terror" he is right.
however, it is a really silly thing to bring up. Perhaps it is another topic he should start. The word terror has been taken over by Terrorist activities and that context of the words... and most would agree that the media overuses the term "terror," however in this case it was important to inform the public that this was not "terror" related.0 -
I just can't wait for the campaign trail to hit Minneapolis and hear Obama and Clinton drone on about nonsense while trying to appeal to their base, cos after all it is a great opportunity to speak to the voters, you know right after a tragedy.Philly '98 '00 (1 & 2) '03 '06 (1 & 2) '08 (1 & 2)

They were average commuters making a routine rush hour drive across a heavily traveled Minnesota bridge. Now, they are survivors, with harrowing tales of escape from a nightmare.
Thats what CNN says. This I guess in contrast to Iraqis who are kind of used to surviving harrowing tales of escape from nightmares - along of course with the tales of the hundreds of thousands that escaped all their nightmares until that last one.0 -

I don't think that's what he meant.

You have to hate when things like this happen. Especially when they were warned in 1990 about the structure. Hey if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Asshats!!You've changed your place in this world!0
