I know booing a singer is a scary sign of the oncoming assaults on the freedom of speech...but how about these people....

I first came across this place when asking the question "give me an example of hatred espoused by glenn beck or rush limbaugh." Someone, who undoubtedly has never listened to either of them put up the quotes from this site...that are the most blatent forms of distortion you will ever find...

People like this, those that want to shut down speech by labeling everyone who disagrees with them as a biggot, are the ones to fear.
And you ask me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And desire and love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days

While I can't stand the sound of Limbaugh's voice I agree that he has the right to say what he wants.

On the November 14, 2006, edition of his CNN Headline News program, Beck said to Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim ever elected to Congress: "OK. No offense, and I know Muslims. I like Muslims. ... With that being said, you are a Democrat. You are saying, 'Let's cut and run.' And I have to tell you, I have been nervous about this interview with you, because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.' "

On the August 24, 2006, edition of his CNN Headline News program, Beck claimed that Braille on walls (used to identify rooms for blind people) "drives me out of my mind." When he made his comment, Beck was discussing the "politically correct world we live in." He then said, "Just to piss them [blind people] off, I'm going to put in Braille on the coffee pot ... 'Pot is hot.' "

On the July 21, 2004, broadcast of his radio show, Boortz referred to McKinney as "the cutest little Islamic jihadist in Congress."
I've never heard any of these people in real life, read as much as i can be bothered, picked a few for you to hopefully tell me how these comments can possibly have been distorted to make them sound as stupid as they do?

I was just on this site as the link was posted in Kenny Olav's thread.

    My personal favorites:

"On the March 1, 2005, edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Limbaugh claimed that "[w]omen still live longer than men because their lives are easier."

    I also enjoyed:

On the November 30, 2006, edition of his radio show, Limbaugh proclaimed: My "cat's taught me more about women, than anything my whole life" because his pet cat "comes to me when she wants to be fed," and "he's smart enough to know she can't feed herself. She's actually [a] very smart cat. She gets loved. She gets adoration. She gets petted. She gets fed. And she doesn't have to do anything for it."

I haven't gotten through all the O'Reilly & Savage quotes yet. Whether or not these quotes are taken out of context, anyone who has listened to Rush & Co for any length of time can see their biases. This is not to say there are some on the opposite end of the spectrum that spew their biases as well.

Although these guys make Imus look tame, I would be horrified if they were removed from the air (removed for anything short of poor ratings). If guys like Imus can be so easily dismissed, what's to stop 'the powers that be' to remove someone with a different perspective that is actually trying to make a difference. With freedom of speech, you take the bad with the good.

this is not the worst website. they usually call people out on their bs. you wouldn't be saying this if it was the drudge report. now i don't think people should get fired just like that. these guys have said worse things and have gotten away with it for the most part. yeah i know. NO CAPS

this is complete bullshit. i listened to the show that day. notice how the quote is broken and not continuous and you are led to believe that his comment about the cat teaching him about women had ANYTHING to do with the rest of the quote.

the crap about survivor is...well...crap. rush was mocking abc or whatever network for being racist by being sarcastic.

    should sarcasm be outlawed?

even michael moore thinks this is disingenous.

all of these people would have been fired if they actually said these things in context...the problem is is that you have people on the left who don't listen to any of these people, and they are eager to believe all this crap.

this is seriously the most disturbing assault on free speech i have ever seen in my life.

disagree with someone...smear, lie, distort, put out half-truths, label your opponents as white supremicists, call them racists, biggots, homophobes, keep doing that and soon, everyone will be afraid to engage in a discussion.

wonderful plan msnbc, mediamatters, et al. have. unfortunately, there are too many conservatives around for it to work :)

And the right wing pundits don't take things out of context? Just about every political talk show host or republican/democratic strategist does it... It's called sensationalism, and how they get any ratings or any attention.

They one thing that bothers me most when I listen to Rush or Hannity, is that they take idiotic behavior that both sides are guilty of, and attribute it only to the left (the left does it as well). The people that agree with everything they say never seem to notice the blatant hypocrisy.

oh come the fuck on... like there aren't people on the right who do this too. there are as many people sitting in their trailer park believing that hillary is the devil and gore wants to outlaw the bible and jesus (i saw that campaign ad, maybe it was john kerry). like hannity, coulter, limbaugh, and their ilk never cherry pick their news to smear the opposition as terrorist-sympathizers and communists that hate christmas and baby jesus. that's just the way the game is played these days. the fact that you're OUTRAGED when the left does it while turning a blind eye when your side does it and swallowing it all like a nickel whore makes YOU one of the scariest people in the world. you're blinded by your ideology. both sides play this game.

I agree with your point about the left 'doing it too' and there is hypocrisy. Like I said in my previous post, you take the good with the bad when it concerns free speech.

Perhaps you can 'fill in the blanks' on Rush's point. I can not speak of Savage, because I have never listened to him before, but you are being disingenuous if you are suggesting Rush isn't at all bias. My father used to listen to him, back in the day, before Rush's content became hateful, so I'm a little familiar with him. I can't image his show has become more 'tame' in recent years. Of course, he might have changed his views on drug addicts. ;)

I didn't realize there was a thread about this particular webpage before I posted a different thread about it.

I have actually listened to several hours of Rush Limbaugh over the years (since the mid 90s), and I've watched Glenn Beck's CNN show at least 20 times. Maybe a few of these quotes are taken unfairly out of context, but for the most part I think they are very potent examples of how deranged these two individuals are. And Neil Boortz... man, is he messed up in the head. Really, I pity all of them. They haven't learned how to love.

I'm not blinded by my ideology, I know that most of the liberal posters here are good people....and amazingly so, i think most liberals are good people...*gasps*. ideology and my politics do not define me. I'm just not sure a lot of you know that the "average" politically active person from the other side is anything less than a heyseed hillbilly sitting in their trailer park bitching about mrs bill clinton.

I listen to left-wing radio, can't stomach olbermann or matthews, but I talk to enough liberals on campus to understand the stereotypes....it wouldn't do me much good to point out conservative hypocrisy on a site like this...that doesn't mean I don't recognize them....

Rush is obviously biased (ideologically speaking) but I don't see ANYTHING that he has ever said as hateful. Us cons are attacked b/c we don't get satire, or sarcasm, but that's usually b/c it's hard to get people who have a completely different philosophy than you.

Savage though, yeah, he IS hateful, I can't really defend him and don't really wanna.

So then you agree Rosie O Donnell spouts hateful speech? I mean if we are being "honest" here that woman couldn't say one nice thing about anyone if she was paid to. Calling Asians "gooks" hey she has a job, defending Iran, saying Iraq would be a better place if Saddam was still in control, yeah your right she isn't hateful or as damaging to our nation as an ass in Rush. And by the way didn't John Kerry call our troops uneducated? or we as a nation of pirraehas? He still has a job or does he he hasn't said anything stupid in a while or has he I mean Imus really turned this country on itself hasn't it.

Yeah, when did that happen? I'm pretty sure it did not.

John McCain, however, HAS used the word "gooks"...while campaigning for president. Real smooth.
