PS3: The People Of This Country Are Stupid

So now we have a shooting to go along with the frenzy and insanity of these morons waiting for some new video game system.

There's something seriously wrong with a culture that goes into a feeding-frenzy-like state of insanity over some stupid gaming system.

As if the events and atrocities of the last several years aren't enough, now, Americans lose their minds over a video game computer system.

Once again, I'm embarrassed and ashamed of some of the citizens of our country.

Atleast it wasn't over a loaf of bread.

At the very least, I could understand people fighting over bread, if they are starving.

As sickening as it is, it's a compliment to the success of this nation. While others are out fighting over food to survive, we've accumulated enough wealth to fight over a fucking video game system.

    Call me an optimist, lol

and yes, this is all pretty tongue-in-cheek.

Good ol' Greed coming into play for some of the participants.
Apparently, people are willing to pay upwards to $3,000.00 for one of them on places like EBay. I saw news reports last night and a few of the people in line stated this as their reasoning.
    ...
Personally, I think it's a little foolish... to HAVE to have it right now. You know that in January, you can pick one up for less than list at the local Target Store. If I really want one... I can wait til it all dies down and pick one up then.
    ...
Still... I shopuldn't speak... I sat in line in San Francisco for their General Admission gigs... but, the pay-off there was a spot on the railing in front of Ed... then, in front of Mike. That doesn't come along to everyone next January.

  • A litte far-fetched. I think people paying 2k for it are retarded, but being ashamed of my country bc some people are excited about PS3- umm not really.

That's true... every country has people that do stupid shit. I would much rather have our stupid people stand in line for a week to get a PlayStation for 600 bucks and sell it to another stupid person for 3,000 bucks on EBay, than to have a stupid person strap on a bomb laden vest, stand next to me at the local Golden Arches Soylent Burger and detonate it.

Interestingly, I didn't say I was ashamed of my country. I said I am ashamed and embarrassed with some of the citizens of this country.

But I do believe a culture where people are willing to pay 5 times the MSRP price on a video game system and fight and shoot each other over it, is seriously disturbing. Obviously, there are a lot more serious things to be disturbed about here, in this country and the actions of our people; but this certainly ranks as absurdly self-absorbed and greedy.

Yeah... I saw a line of about 3 tents outside a Target Store in Long Beach on Wednesday. I thought it was some sort of protest or something. Then, I heard all of the stuff on the radio news about it.
I will never understand the mentality of HAVING to have something first. To me, it doesn't make them appear cool or anything... if anything, it makes them appear kinda stupid. Remember the 'Tickle Me Elmos' of a few years back? To pay 200 bucks for a 20 dollar piece of shit that is going to annoy you til the damn batteries die... kinda stupid in my book.

Ok...I just wanted to say..HELLO!!! This is not only about your country...It's so weird to see inteligent people like you, NMyTree (you surely sound like an inteligent person) writing about this stuff, noticing how small things DO matter, and many times are signs of much bigger deals going on, but you allways forget that your country is INSIDE this planet that's called EARTH. I mean...I've seen many interesting comments about this kind of stuff, but most of the times the people who wrote them talk like if there was nothing outside US...

Hell men, so it's ok if everyone else in the world is starving to death as long as YOU in YOUR GREAT WEALTH Accumulator Machine Nation still can fight over a video game system.
My God, you sometimes really sound like some fu**ed up bas**rds.
I'm not trying to defame or hurt anyones feelings, I respect your opinion even when I don't agree with them. I'm just trying to make my point, and hoping you could consider it.

the MSRP may be only 599 but the actual value of this item is well over 1000. maybe even 2. so its not that crazy to want one. although the actions of some people is very stupid.

how much did you pay for your last PC? probably over 1000.

this is much more powerful than a PC.

even sony is losing $250-$300 per unit.
  • I agree 100%.

The machine is incredible (graphically, even more so than the Wii... i hear they've made seperate algorithms for every-single drop of water in some cases) but people need to chill the fuck out. Seriously. It's pissing me off and hurting a lot of people.

But I thought we needed tax cuts? For what, so some dipshits can pay $650 for a video game system? Or some folks on food stamps for their kids can get in their sports car?

Whatever, Xbox 360 is so much better anyways.

Seriously though, people are freakin' stupid as fuck. Its not like this is some one time release, there will be millions of these things out there eventually. To shoot (which is an attempt to murder) another human being over a device like this is seriously disturbing. Our world is fucked.

Most of us can afford a ps3 with or without a tax cut.

Don't hate resourceful people. Say if someone spends their food stamps on a ps3 and sells for 3 times as much. Why not do it? That is going to help the family more than Uncle Sam is.
    NERDS!
  • This is not a commentary on americans or the "end of the world".

A popular Christmas gift is drawing lines, and a couple idiots are causing trouble? OH MY GOD!! AMERICANS ARE SO STUPID.

Its something people want. Demand outweighs supply. A couple thousand college kids with nothing to do decided to spend a night or two waiting for something they really want. Ive camped out for concert tickets, does that make me weird or have poor priorities?

yeah, but then your friends will all have it before you and you'll be the weakest link in the gaming group at divide and conquer (or whatever military tactics games those kids that couldnt even pass a physical play to feel manly) and your respect and standing within the nerd community will drop :(

I did read the whole post, even the whole thread before I was even interested in wrinting a reply. In the first place, 'cause I didn't even know what a PS3 was, I was just trying to understand the reason of the title "the people of this country are stupid".
I'm sorry that I didn't understand the "tongue-in-cheek" expression, I'm an spanish speaker, so I guess it`s OK if I miss some of those very very american expressions, isn't it? And one of the main reasons for me to read posts at this pit is also to get to learn some more english. :D
At last, but not least ;), I was talking about some "general" situation, even when I quoted your particular post. And if you wrote that with sarcarsm, then it was hilarious men!!!
Sorry for the missunderstood, I know it seemed like if I was taking it on you... Sorry for that.
Does anyone want to teach me some american expressions?.

This was a very, very, very small percentage of morons. It's hardly a representation of this country.
