Why is USA allowed nukes, and other countries not?

Surely if USA were that keen on banning nukes, they'd disarm all theirs?

Or is this simply too logical for the gumps that run the USA?

Yes the US is so brilliant in our military mindset that we start a trillion $$$ war based on WMD's in Iraq. Makes us look so much wiser when we get ready to use NUKES in Iran or anywhere else.

There are six kids in a school who don't trust one another. They each have a semi-automatic weapon stuffed under their coat and they each know that the others are armed. They're keeping one another in check. You, as a school administrator, would presumably want to arm every student with these weapons, eh? If not, you'd at least defend the right of other students to arm themselves in your school, right? Because the way I'm taking your comment is that you're all about proliferation.

Personally, it's scary enough that ANYONE has a nuke. I'd rather look like a hypocrite and discourage proliferation than idly stand by while other nations arm themselves to the teeth with technology that could literally wipe out the large majority of the world's population in the matter of a day.
"Worse than traitors in arms are the men who pretend loyalty to the flag, feast and fatten on the misfortunes of the nation while patriotic blood is crimsoning the plains." -- Abraham Lincoln
  • But I highly doubt the US will rid themselves of the weapons if they were to get hold of them.

russia has more nukes than the entire world combined. they are backing Iran's desire to be able to have them. what happens if Iran and Russia team up against the US? if they did team up with Iran, that would be very scary for us all since russia is already close allies with china, and therefore also myanmar. does anyone else think this is a real possibility?

i'm really worried with the iran situation on top of everthing else :(

China is enjoying their newfound prosperity, I highly doubt you'd see them involved in any conflict unless it involved Taiwan or the mainland. Unless they've felt threatened they've consistently shown a tendency to be isolationists.

Putin will be gone soon. Not that this gives me any sense of comfort, but I seriously question the direction he's taken his nation, who he's seemingly going to bed with. Ahmenijhad's meeting with Putin seemed purely out of spite, a very ballsy move that Putin knew would get the West squeamish. For a country that is finally getting back on it's feet economically, this was a dumb move imo.

Iran would be nothing if not for the oil. Ahmenijhad is a smart dude, no doubt about it. Unfortunately his mind is corrupt and unpredictable. He's baiting us and we're biting. Attacking Iran is not worth the cost, both in potential lives lost and the geopolitical ramifications.

I know it's been rehashed here repeatedly, but the sooner we lose our dependence on foreign oil the sooner we can stay out of these nutjobs' business. If there were ever a time for the U.S. to get back to its isolationist beginnings, now is the time.

Oh yeah, and getting the world's favorite buddy Dubya out of office will go a long way in rebuilding alliances that, in this climate, are becoming increasingly important.

Because this isn't fucking kindergarten? Who gives a fuck about fairness? Should we give everyone on Earth one nuke in the interest of fairness?

Nukes, like any other weapon advancement, is a Pandora's box. You can't undo it. You will never see them just dissappear. Although gas and germ warfare are outlawed, many powerful countries still keep a supply just in case. That doesn't mean we should allow more and more countries to make more. It only increases the odds of complete global destruction.

Like someone said earlier, I'd rather be a hipocrite and stop the spread of nuclear arms than to just let anyone create their own. Stopping proliferation is the only rational tactic, not somehow destroying all the nukes in existence already. You can't unlearn how to make a nuke, and no country would be so foolish as to give up such a huge military advantage.

Now go back to kindergarten and share your fucking cookies with everyone else and ignore the sad realities of the real world.

There is also a little something called the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which a ton of countries have signed. It recognizes that there are countries, including the US that have nuclear weapons but the countries that don't but have signed, agree to not develop them.

I'm not so sure, they may come a time when they're all used up in a worldwide nuclear annihilation and the only ones fighting at that time will be with sticks and stones.

I think Einstein said that some time ago.

not really. russia is backing Iran's LEGAL WANT OF NUCLEAR ENERGY which is nothing even close to "their desire to have nuclear weapons."

If the idiotic citizens of the US would be smart enough to not support war with Iran, they'd vote in someone who'll try to be diplomatic and man enough to have talks with Iran in trying to establish a stronger alliance. Ahmadinejad has stated several times he wants to talk but the US refused. That shows that the US is really the stupid one, not Iran. If after they try to talk and Iran shows hostility and like they have something to hide, then you'd have reason to be scared.

Even if Iran desired to attain nuclear weapons they're many years (5-10) away from gaining such weapons. Surely something can be worked out diplomatically when your looking at that time frame of Iran becoming a "threat to the ENTIRE WORLD".
