check out this website http://www.votesmart.org.

It's still pretty convoluted to find your own representatives and how to complain but this is one way you can look them up in your area.

If we're going to start making changes, we need to start bending their ears and flooding thier in boxes.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

They give you stock replies which don't address anything. But it's still worth trying.

Just as important - Know their election terms?

When I send a note to any of my state elected officials, I like to look up their term to see if they are up for re-election.

I'll start my note something on the line of.

    Dear Councilman/Senator/Congressman __________

I know this is a busy time for you as you prepare for your probable run for re-election in 2010. I would like to inquire into the issue of [then go into whatever issue is on your mind.]

probable -Its important to let them know nothing is a shoe in anymore.
2010 -Its important to let them know your a permanent, interested voter, who is there to stay.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.

Yeah, I'm going to try and make that show Monday night is tough because I have so much vacation coming up the following month. My buddy lives in Cayce though so I'd hate to miss it.

Good point. I think a lot of the stuff that we discuss on message boards, bars and what have you just never makes it to the ears of the politicians for whatever reason. It's just kind of frustrating when they say things we are opposed to and yet no one in power seems to reflect that viewpoint or even know it exists. This frustration makes me want to get involved in local politics again at least to make some comments in local meetings.

I know, me too! I'm so shy though but I'm ready to face that and be heard somehow. What are the qualifications for local gov't like city council for instance? I've been encouraged by friends and family but they already like me so that's not a very objective take....not to mention the fact that I'm pretty left and I live in a town that's far right. I do want to make a difference and have the things I care about at least get a good listen from somone in a position to get something done. It feels like my hands are tied here.
