Its all marketing....republicans are pretty smart...they reduce taxes for the wealthy members of our society..so they lock them in along with their campaign contributions. They push favorable legislation for big companies..more campaign contributions.....but they need some more..so they market themselves as pro life and anti gay to get some more. And unfortunately....many of the anti gay, pro life folks..are followers...accept what they're told....perfect for the republicans to continue they're charade. Course they're now pretty wary as they've been so badly misled by current administration...but will soon forget as soon as the next republican candidate.....says..."we need to get rid of activist judges".....sad but true.

Please explain how the pro-gay and anti-life folks are not followers as well, who just accept what they are told and perfect for the democrats to continue their charade.

    ...
    Pro-Gay? Anti-Life?
I don't care if someone is gay and I don't want to exclude them from society. I don't get that from Democrats.
And as for the abortion issue... it is a legal choice... not one I would want someone to choose... but, it is not my business to make that decision for them.
On the other side of the coin... I'll bet that people who are against Gay Marriages and/or Abortion will eventually envoke religion as some sort of validation.

    That's the difference.

So they are delivered by the stork. I had my suspicions.

Seriously here, the left sometimes seems so condescending towards those with different opinions and the "followers" comment showed nothing but a hypocritical nature and an arrogance that seems so common among extremists...many of whom we have on this board.

may sound condescending...but not meant to be......lets go with the whole gay thing...what does it really matter who someone's attracted to...I mean who gives a fk...and if you do give a fk...the one thats in any way bothered by who others are boinking has the problem..not the boinkers.

This song puts the position in perspective.

and you don't love fags, this much is apparent
you're having nightmares about them every time you get your hair cut
you stare what you suspect could be a queer man
in the eye, in the mirror, enzymes coming out your fear gland
he's got scissors near your eardrums
you might lose your hearing you don't watch it with these queer ones
and here comes your presidential cheerleader now
so disturbed by the marriages in my home town
that he's got to take the tip top law in the land down
scribble on it: "I hate homos, big bad frown."
put it back up, be like "what? it's better!
y'all were with me a second ago
when I said that marriage was threatened
and it was! under siege by these villains
can you believe they wanted to gang up and have children?
there would be an army of them, teeming and thronging
tempting every American to give in to forbidden longing
i thought they couldn't reproduce, that was their weakness!
now what are we gonna do? they're gonna seek just
treatment under the law, dammit that's like saying
it's okay to be gay! or a lesbian! hey man,
you can not say that. society would crumble and fall apart."
i'll think about that on the BART

it dosen't matter. I could care less who you boink and how you do it as long as that person isn't forced into it.

Here is a question. Why is the republican party so closely related to christianity?

It's not, really. Otherwise, the Republicans would clear about 80% of the popular vote every election.

What they do have is a sizable voting block consisting of the dispensationalist/rapture-ready crowd who believe that their interpretation of Christianity is the only true religion, and any who stray (from the church or the party) are in danger of the judgement. Trying to tie Christianity to these folks in a negative way will likely only anger other Christians - perhaps even pushing them into the Republican fold themselves.

I really don't care whether somebody is gay or straight. That was not the issue I had with that "followers" comment. It is the blind hypocrisy of the comment in somebody actually thinking they are better and more enlightened than someone else. Many on this board cannot even fathom the idea that there are different opinions out there and, if someone dares to hold a different opinion, then they are somehow stupid/ignorant/needing to "wake up"/not worthy of breathing the same air as the divine beings with whom they disagree/etc...

Jeez, z. I never pegged you as someone with a prejudice against bisexuals, but there you go.

and I am sometimes guilty of this. Still though...if one human passes judgement on another because they get a rise (pun intended) from one gender rather than another...sorry...There is no logical reason for this...other than they have been told its bad and are going with it...or they feel somehow threatened by it which is even harder for me to digest. How I tied this to the thread is simple....many believe its wrong because they've been told this..and don't question or try to justify it....hence will follow what they're told more than a person that gives in some thought.

Many think it's not wrong because they were told this too. But somehow they are less of a follower than the one who agrees with the only intelligent people on this board.

I don't really mind the bisexuals either. It's just the misleading transvestites that scare the hell out of me. Good thing I haven't picked wrong yet.

would they think it would be wrong? Whats the basis? Really want to understand. And yes I realize..you and I agree on this subject ..and I do also respect your questioning me..and do agree I can be obstinate on this subject..as well as abortion...just don't get it.

Some of it has to do with religion. Right or wrong, religion has been around for a long time and will continue to be around for a long time. Many people have a lot of faith in a God and believe, regardless of their upbringing, that the purpose of marriage and intercourse are to produce children. This is not my belief but I know many who do believe this and would not consider them followers. They have searched within their faith and have found this. They are not always as hateful as the God Hates Fags people and do not hate gay people at all. They just believe the act to be wrong. They are also guilty of exactly what I am questioning you on. I can be extremely obstinate as well so, believe me, I understand your nature.

Do they realize that the cause to act is motivation and the cause to motivation is biochemical and behavioral? The act it's self may be immoral, but people should know that it's not the cause of it's self. If a person's primary sexual drive is towards same-sex partners, then is that immoral? If the desire is not immoral, then how is the act immoral?

equate my sexual desire for women for other mens sexual desire for men...not something I chose...it just is. I do feel....we are evolving..and soon..maybe not in my lifetime...but soon relatively speaking...it won't matter.

They may not believe a word you just said. I am not saying that it is right or wrong. I am saying that any of us who put ourselves on a higher plane than then are hypocrites in as bad of a way as they are.

becos it's personal. it's not some pastor or whoever telling them what's moral. they just are capable of something called empathy... putting themselves in another's shoes. a democrat hears about being gay and goes "well, im not gay, but i sure as hell wouldnt want that kind of discrimination being directed at me for any reason so im opposed." or for abortion "maybe i dont like it, but if i was in that situation i dont know what the hell id do, so who am i to say no?" there's no single book and authoritarian hierarchy handing this stance down. it's just common sense... aka the golden fucking rule. i wouldnt want that done to me, im not gonna do it to someone else. the anti-gay, anti-choice (since you love your incendiary labels) crowd doesnt think about these things or care about other people. they go "pastor dave said it's sinful and so by god im going to fight it!"

case in point: dick cheney. staunch conservative republican. suddenly, when it's happening in HIS family... he realizes just how harmless it is and shuts the fuck up about homosexuality. these are just people looking for a moral scapegoat as handed down by their pastor to keep the money and outrage flowing.
