I heard the weekly address on NPR as I was driving today, and this part made me scream at my radio:

"Whatever our differences on strategy and tactics, we all have a duty to ensure that our troops have what they need to succeed. Thousands of young men and women are preparing to join an important mission that will in large part determine the outcome in Iraq. Our brave troops should not have to wonder if their leaders in Washington will give them what they need. I urge members of Congress to fulfill their responsibilities, make their views known, and to always support our men and women in harm's way."

(entire address at:

Are you fucking kidding? This coming from the same administration that sent thousands of troops in without properly armored vehicles??? without body armor??? with body armor that the soldiers' parents had to buy for them???

What happend to Rumsfeld's "you have to go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you want"?

This president must think that we are a country with no memory of what was done or said last week, last month or last year.... and unfortunately, for the most part he is right.

Short of launching nuclear (sorry W, nucular) weapons, nothing this administration does shocks me anymore. They are incompetent and as such will not be able to unscrew the mess they made.

the reason these men and women are in harm's way to begin with is because the bush administration is sending them into harm's way. and the reason they come back brain damaged, crippled, disfigured, with missing limbs is because they don't have the proper protective gear. and there are A LOT of them who come back this way, you just don't see them or read about them very often. they're hidden away. but when you do read about a bombing in which, say, 10 soldiers were "wounded", we're not talking about some broken fingers and sprained ankles. it's head traumas, lost eye sight, severe burns, missing limbs, etc. this war has produced the MOST amputees out of any war in history. that's a fact. and a lot of those are americans. so you're going to be getting used to seeing an inordinate number of people in wheelchairs, and wearing prosthetic body parts on your streets. and the people that sent them into harms way really don't give a shit. (it's not their kids they send over there. it's yours).

Woondering where you heard this war has the most amputees of any war.

And the reason that is if it is true I would say it is because of better body armor and better medical technology.

it may be "highest rate" of any war. i saw it on a show in which cher was donating money and fighting for soldier's to be equipped with better head gear. (this was last summer i saw the show). i found this article(it's more than 2 years old now, but it'll give you a good idea of what i'm talking about)

The whole thing is a setup. IMO, this administration will spend the next 2 years attempting to turn public opinion AGAINST the current congress and senate, democrats in general, with the goal of reverting everything to Republican control in 2008. Hence the harping on 'giving our soldiers what they need'. This is an attempt to make Congress look bad, if they cut funds. This of course is spin, because the Republican controlled Congress, Senate and Whitehouse did not give the troops what they need for years, but people will not remember this.

Seriously, get beyond the immature rhetoric, and actually say something interesting.all of the posts here are completely self-absorbed and really pathetic....

not that i listened, but THIS was my favorite quote from today's radio address:

"To oppose everything while proposing nothing is irresponsible"
And you ask me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And desire and love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
