Appointment for vice president?

For sake of discussion....

I'm going out on a limb and predicting that Cheney will step down at some point this year. Between his ever-growing unpopularity, and more importantly what is coming out in the Libby trial, I think Cheney will resign, whether it's after the trial, or 6 months from now because of "health reasons".

I was trying to think who Bush would appoint to replace him, and I can't think of anyone that will a) want to me associate with this President and all of the political baggage that goes along with it, and b) would be able to be confirmed by congress.

Any thoughts?

The only way I see Cheney resigning is if information arises during the trial that would implicate him as a active participant in the Plame leak. Chances are that if Cheney did authorize the leak Libby will never give him up. All Libby has to do is hold on till the end of Bush's term and wait for that Presidential pardon to come down, if he is convicted.

Lets hope Cheney resigns, so that some other high-ranking Republican leader can take office, commit an indiscretion, and also have to resign.....discredit as many as possible!

IF that were to happen I think they would appoint Condosleeza as VP, and try to push her towards a White House bid in 2008.

That was my first guess too, but thinking about how she got grilled by the senate foreign relations committee, I don't think that she could get confirmed.
