I'm sorry if this has already being posted but this is the biggest news story in Australia over the past couple of days and thought it may be of some interest and discussion.

The wind is blowing cold
Have we lost our way tonight?
Have we lost our hope to sorrow?
Feels like were all alone
Running further from what’s right
And there are no more heroes to follow
So what are we becoming?
Where did we go wrong?
Have we lost our way tonight?
Have we lost our hope to sorrow?
Feels like were all alone
Running further from what’s right
And there are no more heroes to follow
So what are we becoming?
Where did we go wrong?

That's ridiculous, maybe the men faced with her are the ones loosing control, a woman is also a human being, should ware whatever she likes to

You can't always ask a man to stay in control if you're wearing something which is DESIGNED to cause men to lose control; for clothes designers, it's an exact science: 'Wear this and men will be all over you.' Some things women wear to 'express their independence and freedom to be who they are' are designed by men in order to do the exact opposite: to exploit their bodies.
Both men and women have a responsibility to be aware of this fact.
- the great Sir Leo Harrison
really? how ridiculous do you think it is?
but yes, you are right. a woman should be able to wear whatever the hell she feels like. and yes men should be able to control whatever it is that they think gives them to right to paw and make lascivious comments at scantily clad women. but the responsibility goes both ways.

I'm not sure what he says directly translates into inciting rape- the big question mark basically means there won't be a proper charge.
I do think all the calls for deportation are just full of crap. If the man is guilty of a crime, charge him with the standard sentence- detention, fine, community service, ban from his public role, etc.
As for the whole question about responsibility, the choice of dress is simply that- a choice. The male responsibility is just 'don't go around sexually assaulting people'. It's that simple.
you know i heard the sheik made this speech a month ago. now i can neither confirm now deny that statement. but if that is the case, what took so long for it to come to light and who uncovered it. and what exactly was their purpose and motive for doing so. was it to protect the chastity and virtue of australian women or was it something else. if a catholic priest or anglican minister said the same thing but somehow phrased it differently would it have gotten the same reaction.

i fully agree with you there, and i cringe if i see 12 year old girls with boob tubes and the like. however a woman should be able to walk around naked (if she so wishes) and not be "asking to be raped". if a woman is walking around with her tits hanging out she then she must fully expect suggestive comments and gawking eyes. but this mufti is placing blame on the victim of the lebanese muslim men who raped her and therefore got 60 odd years in prison.

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!! what the fuck!? I can't even figure out how to react to this!
I've been wondering the same thing. I get the impression that this guy has been saying stupid things for a long time, but nobody ever paid any attention before now. Suddenly with the current climate the media is always looking for excuses to sensationalise the divide between the muslim community and the rest of the country. I'm glad that the community managed to swiftly distance themselves from him. They have enough PR problems to deal with without being associated with an idiot like him.
As for his comments. . .I think it really is ridiculous to claim that women are ever responsible for being raped, and I agree that women should, in a perfect world, be free to wear whatever they feel like. The problem is that the world isn't perfect, and in certain situtations perhaps women need to do more in order to protect themselves. The reality of the world is that there will always be rapists out there, so women need to be careful to avoid getting into dangerous situations. Its no different to anyone having to be aware of what parts of a city to avoid at night, because going there would involve a certain degree of risk of getting mugged.
I don't know if I'm making my point clearly, but what I'm trying to get at is that everyone is resposnsible for their own personal safety.
