Are humans that materialistic?
It's just money.
As long as you aren't starving to death, you should be grateful you have your health.

I usually don't say this, but that's a very lame comparison/question.
Why does anyone ever kill themselves? The only person that really knows is the person that does it.The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.
Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.0 -

I would never claim to be able to speak for someone who is that depressed and full of hopelessness, but I'd imagine that a suffocating feeling that you would not be able to provide for your family could be an overwhelming weight that could lead to trying to find a way out. It's tragic, but that's the only thing I could think of.0

Well, yea. We're taught that money is everything and without it you're nothing.0

at the risk of being slammed in this forum....I think that shame and culture (based on the surnames in the story) have a lot to do with the actions taken by the father. So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream

the only question i'd want to ask him, is ok, we get you don't want to be here anymore, but why murder 5 other people as well. they are your wife and kids for fucks sake.0

I don't know if this is a cultural issue, as I'm not too familiar with Indian culture. (sure this could happen within any culture but sometimes the idea of losing face is stronger in Asia?)
But my guess is the shame felt by the murderer for letting down his family was too much for him. And if he didn't kill the family then they would carry his shame after he was gone.
Just a guess, could be way off base.0 -
Because people relying on the market for their living are claiming this is the end of the world (or something very similar) and delivering panick and fear through the media. And some people are very very sensitive to fear and doom, sometimes a little too much. Remember that girl that killed herself because of the LHC (posted around here somewhere), same type of stuff.0

After reading the story and seeing the guy, I guess in his culture, he felt depressingly ashamed at not continuing to provide for his family after being unemployed. I think some men just have serious issues with having their manhood tested and equating it with the a)big house, b)big car, c)big bank account.
Only the guy knows why his worthlessness in the past few months summed up to kill his entire family first and then himself.~*~Me and Hippiemom dranketh the red wine in Cleveland 2003~*~
