Political parties..

Would it make sense to get rid of them completely? Aren't they just labels to help lazy people who don't do their research vote?..

Imagine if elections were held American Idol style. No party affiliations. The contestants make it clear where they stand on the issues and the worst contestants are voted off.. Instead of singing, they debate. You'd be forced to pay attention before you blindly vote for "your party"..

I think third party thinkers would find a lot more success in a method like this, and we'd end up with better leadership.

Just a thought.

Disclaimer: I've never watched an episode of American Idol in my life.. I swear!

  • I'd just like to see Simon Cowell host the debates. :p
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

if someone actually could figure out a way to get rid of a construct SO ingrained in our, and many countries political culture...it could well be a good idea. however, i simply do not forsee that happening. besides which, even w/o political parties..if people are 'lazy' in their choices, that will still occur....just for some other, probably irrelevant feature. so i don't see much 'point' either way, really. with em or without em...what gets accomplished? i think with parties, at least to some extent, the idea is for those of alike mind to work toward their personal ideals. in a country as large and diverse as ours, especially if we had MORE parties with actual, clear goals..it could be good for the voters.
    Stay with me...

it's too easy for parties to get corrupted. really what we're saying is there are only 1 or 2 views and that's it. a lot of the stances look the same, there may be some differences but on many things they are almost identical, the only difference is how they spin it to their constituency.

political parties have set ideas to which any candidate must conform to. what we really need is to evolve individual ideas and work together, not against each other w/ set ideas that never seem to evolve or change. if you look at polls of what the public wants our elected officials almost always to the right of that.

like they say; the republicans are the party w/ bad ideas and the democrats are the party w/ no ideas...are any of these stances we're seeing new this time around? hardly
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way
