WASHINGTON (AP) -- Companies would no longer be able to use genetic information like a person's predisposition for breast cancer, sickle cell or diabetes to make insurance or job decisions under a bill passed by Congress on Thursday.

The House voted 414-1 for the legislation a week after it passed the Senate on a 95-0 vote. The bill would bar health insurance companies from using genetic information to set premiums or determine enrollment eligibility. Similarly, employers could not use genetic information in hiring, firing or promotion decisions.

Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, was the only member of Congress to vote against the bill.

Actually someone is a retard for not understanding the principles upon which Paul bases his votes. I'm certain you will not be able to find a quote from Paul promoting genetic discrimination as your misleading title would have us believe. Nice try, though.

promoting those two issues over the much larger and more important issues for this candidate in particular is as bad as citing them as issues in the first place ;)

He has personal beliefs. I part company with him on the above. But he doesn't use government force to promote his ideas.

And that is why I have respect for the guy. Not too many people are capable of doing something like that.

    I agree.

He is still getting my vote.

While I don't agree with Paul's political philosophy, I am pretty sure that his 'no' vote was NOT because he is for discrimination of any kind. Is there a link to that article? I would be interested in understanding his reasoning.

lol.. im not a Ron Paul supporter... but passing a bill that says a company can't discriminate is like a passing a bill saying companies can't do whats in their best interests

    EITHER WAY..

if you have sickle cell.. you arent gonna be treated the same no matter where you go...and no number of bills is gonna change that... but keep trying to control the human mind..

I would have voted no on this because its absurd and a waste of time talking about it. if you want to get serious about insurance companies.. start bombing their buildings.

    I agree.

so you would support a candidate that doesnt believe in evolution and does not believe in a womans right to choose, simply because he is an isolationist?

and you condemn me for supporting Obama despite some concerns, minor compared to the 2 we are talking about above? you have to be kidding

Ah, classic. Labeling someone an isolationist when, in reality, they are not.

please show me where i have said that.

i have said your consistency has not been there lately and some of your views now seem hypocritical to ones you've had in the past, imo. But that's far from saying you are an overall hypocrite.

i stand behind thinking you have changed some of your stances to mold to those of Obama's but that's in no way condemning you.

before you choke up on your laughter...you forgot to bold the part where I said you weren't an overall hypocrite.

Im not supporting Paul but I would support him over Obama based on his stance on the war alone and that he stances behind his ideals.

and the problems i have with Obama are far from minor

so you could vote for a candidate that does not believe in evolution, is anti-choice, believes in complete deregulation, and believes in social darwinism, aka sink or swim domestic policy?

that seems to fly in the face of pretty much everything you seem to stand for...

Hold that up against the the bigger picture and what you said becomes trivial in comparison...
