Made in China

In the past year or so there have been many problems with contaminated stuff imported from China. Many people I know are making a conscious effort NOT to buy items made in China when it comes to something you eat, eat off/out of, or stuff for babies or young children. I've been doing some Christmas shopping finding it almost impossible to find these items not made in China. I have a friend who has been looking for a travel coffee mug for months but can't find one not made it China, so I've been looking but haven't found one either.

Every working day I drive past a sign that says 'buy American - it could mean your job’. Except for cars, what is made in America? Do we not manufacture anything else anymore?

I've been doing a lot of shopping but not getting much done

  • Just shop in thrift stores, salvation army stores, etc. You'll find plenty of stuff that isn't made in China.

This is the reason we're having economic problems right now.

We do not manufacturing anything. We are now a service oriented economy.

it's all interconnected ... people want to pay the least amount for their goods and corporations want to make the most amount ... the result is that everything is made overseas where safety, health and other standards are much lower ...

i love how everyone wants a fair wage for their work they do but when it comes time to supporting others who feel the same way - they buy at wal-mart ...

i don't buy a lot of stuff - i get a good chunk of clothes at thrift stores but for my office party i bought a new shirt ... paid over $100 - but it was made with organic cotton in south america where workers got UK minimum wage which is a huge step forward ... anyhoo - the economy, health and safety standards ... it's all interconnected ... and we only have ourselves to blame ...

People who shop at Wal-Mart are the reason this country is in the bad economic times that it is.

A quick search like "made in america" and you can find stuff.

It's true that our manufacturing sector is in trouble, but the answer there is FAIR trade, as opposed to free trade...in my view.

How do you know they have nothing? I mean yes they make a lot less then people in Europe or North America do, but then again how much does it cost to live in Bangladesh? When I was still renting my rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in Canada was around $800 a month, do you think someone living in India pays anywhere near that much?

i don't buy items made in china. i can't understand how outsourcing the major of our manufacturing jobs can be good for our economy.

We manufacture Commercial Aircraft... for the time being. We build our own Military Aircraft and vehicles... with sub-assemblies mostly made in the U.S. And missiles with all-weather, terrain following guidence systems and the satellites that direct them.

    and Crystal Meth.

    Oh... and Big Macs.

Lettuce from Guatemala, Tomatoes from Mexico, cheese from Indonesia, pickles from Taiwan, fries from Uzbekistan, ketchup from China... and the patties... from fucking Mars!!!
Plus... the shit is even cooked someplace else. All we do is drop the baggie in boiling water and put them together.

Hell... even the person taking the order... aren't they in India???

We make guns in America. Colt, Armalite, Smith and Wesson etc are all made here. I think its a good thing. On the downside, here in NC we are losing all our textile (clothing) and furniture plants because people want $7 t-shirts instead of $10 ones that last longer. The Wal-mart effect.

THE BIG SECRET NO POLITICIAN WILL TELL US IS YOU HAVE TO BUY AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS IF YOU WANT AMERICA TO BE SUCCESSFULL.
