"Some 10,000 US researchers have signed a statement protesting about political interference in the scientific process."

"According to the American Union of Concerned Scientists, data is being misrepresented for political reasons."

When i first read this article i thought i felt surprised; however, i began to think about it some more and realized that i wasn't actually feeling surprised; rather, i felt (and do feel) sickened. my heart sank thinking how fucked up this is. who the hell do these people think they are? so we now know that the folks in power right now aren't just content being re-writing history...they are actively manipulating the present in ways that i never imagined would be done.

fuck the fuckers fucking with science.

My thoughts on the matter are overly simplified, but still relevant.

If God didn't want man to be able to do this cutting edge, controversial science, we wouldn't be able to do it.
  • Global warming scientific research is being taken and then used to achieve political ends without looking at all of the research and scientific opinion available.

A more detailed article on this appeared in Skeptic magazine back in 2004, back when "only" 4,000 scientists had signed. Too long to copy here, but worth the read.

  • so does that mean God is a liar?
  • That there is a debate on whether students should be taught evolution in American schools is absurd in the 21 st century. I hate to say it but this sort of politically driven campaign (driven by religous or corporate interests) makes America a laughing stock globally.

Is it good? No. But it's also happening with the science surrounding climate change. Funny how scientists don't seem to complain with science being politicized if it means more grants and research money for themselves.

  • greed and personal interests have aided the advancement of scientific progress and also impaired it for example the current digital revolution which is happening right now is a result of greed but on the other hand the lack of advancement in transport and the internal combustion engine is a result of greed and self interest from the big oil companies, it would be nice if there was some middle ground at the very least if not the eradication of greed(like fuck thats ever gonna happen).

dark star, i feel your pain. but is anyone really surprised by this statement?

"Campaigners say that in recent years the White House has been able to censor the work of agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration because a Republican congress has been loath to stand up for scientific integrity."
